President Obama awarded the Medal of Honor to a French-born former U.S. Army captain who tackled a suicide bomber and saved other soldiers' lives while serving in Afghanistan.

Florent "Flo" Groberg, 32, was given the highest U.S. military honor in a ceremony Thursday morning at the White House, making him the tenth living person to receive the award for actions in Afghanistan. (Seven others have received the medal posthumously.)

If we last long enough to get a REAL President and Commander in Chief, he should invite all these MOH recipients back to have it awarded by an AMERICAN who loves this Country and respects the sacrifices of the military.

I cringe each time Hussein Soebarkah affixes the CMOH to a hero with his filthy fingers or soils the hallowed ground of ANC where my parents are interred. January 20, 2017 can’t come soon enough.

Just think about how pissed off it must make him to have to award the CMOH? I bet he’d rather poke his own eye out with a hot spoon.

“I cringe each time Hussein Soebarkah affixes the CMOH to a hero”

The Fraud hates it, too, but recognizes it to be an unpleasant photo op necessity for his “legacy”.

His holding back his tears during the presentation had me holding mine back. A true American hero.

I’m honored to have met this young man a few times while he was attending the University of Maryland. A finer American you’ll never meet. He continues to remind us he accepts the award to honor the four men he lost that day. May God bless you Capt. Groberg and thank you for saving the lives of some fine soldiers on that awful day.

Please, the proper name for this award is the Medal of Honor (MoH) NOT ‘Congressional Medal of Honor’ (CMoH). While the President awards it in the “name of the Congress”, Congress itself has nothing to do with the award and is not part of the award name or the award process. This is more like the ancient Rome salutation of “For the Senate and the People of Rome” (SPQR) usage in that the hero is bearing the honor of the nation.

Agree, strictly true, although public law uses both terms, mostly MoH. Also, CMOH Society charter legislation was passed by Congress and signed by Pres. Eisenhower. As you know, CMOH Society members are a pretty exclusive group, MoH recipients. Also, there is a CMOH Foundation. My purpose is to separate a Congressionally approved award from the disgusting, anti-American reprobate who occupies the WH.

If this man is an officer, he is wearing the wrong branch insignia, he is wearing the enlisted U.S. And Infantry crossed rifles. I think the press got his rank wrong. And you can see the top of a chevron on his left sleeve. If he were an officer, his rank would be on his lapels, where his unit crests are.

It’s pretty obvious from his nametag that it’s not the same man that the article is about.

I don’t like to wast time correcting terms that are mostly accurate. I didn’t use the term, only quoted it from the post to which I responded, but

FWIW....

Because the medal is presented “in the name of Congress”, it is often referred to as the “Congressional Medal of Honor”. However, the official name is the “Medal of Honor”, which began with the Army version.[1][8] Within United States Code the medal is referred to as the “Medal of Honor”,[9] and less frequently as “Congressional Medal of Honor”.[10]

And also, there is a

Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

You are right but wrong since "null and void" put the caption of "[not him, but...]" above the picture. Perhaps it would have been better below it.

Anyhow, THIS is a picture of the awarding and as you can see - he is wearing officer uniform and tabs. It is now understandably unusual for officers to be awarded the MoH in this asymmetrical warfare of the rock pile and sandbox. I think CPT Groberg (USA ret) is only the third since 09/11/01.

And also, there is a Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

And this is, I think, one of the sources of the confusion by its name and existence. It, "the Society", is Congressional because it has a Charter from Congress establishing it in 1958 (signed by President Eisenhower).

If I appear too 'picky' it is because I had a Dad who was very good friends with two awardees and the last one, COL Van Barfoot (USA ret) just recently passed in 2012. I made the single reference to CMoH (as a child) and never again as I was corrected by my Dad (GRIN)! At least this and many recent articles that I have seen have avoided the dread term of 'EARNED' for the medal. My Dad, who served WW2, Korea & Vietnam, said many times that there were a lot more soldiers who earned a medal that were ever awarded one. Most because they died!

I understand, I also refer to it as the MoH.

For Hussein, it’s just another reason for his photo to be taken and adored.
