Trump: I never said wages are too high

Trump: I never said wages are too high By ELIZA COLLINS 11/12/15 06:53 PM EST Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Donald Trump on Thursday clarified his comments from Tuesday night's GOP debate about wages being too high, saying the blowback has been misguided.

The billionaire businessman was asked during the Fox Business debate about whether he was sympathetic to protesters who have been pushing for the minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour.

“I can’t be…and the reason I can’t be is because we are a country that is being beaten on every front,” Trump said on Tuesday night. “Taxes too high, wages too high, we’re not going to be able to compete against the world.”

But on Fox News’ “Special Report” Thursday he insisted that he never said wages were too high, just that the minimum wage should not increase.

“I didn’t say that. Bret, we were talking about the minimum wage, and they said ‘should we increase the minimum wage?’ And I’m saying that if we’re going to compete with other countries we can’t do that because the wages would be too high,” Trump said after host Bret Baier asked him about his comments.

Yikes! First real chink in the armor. Not a bleeding wound by any measure, but when you have to explain yourself, it takes you off message. And Trump has been brilliant about staying on message.

Nah, we just need more slogans.

It was obvious from the start that Trump was referring to minimum wage.

Actually Trump did say that at the last debate answering a question about minimum wage.

It may be true but I still cringed.

The first of presidential debates is never announce that you’re going to name an exact number of government agencies.

The fact that these government agencies are so easy to forget should tell us something. We add billions to the national debt to support them yet they are so inconsequential in our lives that we can’t even remember their names.

I guess we are down to taking comments out of context and latching on to misspoken words. Seems beneath FR to me. We should be talking about the candidates stated positions, voting records and actual accomplishments.

Government agencies easy to forget because its Cruz, but Trump, My God he just made a biggest blunder by not making full detailed paragraph explaining wages. Trump is not conservative. Right.

Commonsense/Context says, Trump was referring to minimum wage.

So making a simple mistake is the same as flip-flopping? Furthermore, what does that have to do with the price of eggs in China? This piece is about Trump blatantly lying. There are plenty of other articles on which you can discuss Cruz’s faux pas.

Now you are believing what Politico is saying.

Difference between Cruz and Trump, one use lawyer language and other street talk.

There was no flip-flop, you are taking what Trump said out of context. That is called intellectual dishonesty. Let's talk about substance, you know like Cruz's vote for TPA and the corker bill. Or his stated position on Amnesty, even though Cruz says legalizing illegal aliens is not amnesty. We all know it is.

Same thing about what he said about Ben Carson, misquoted, or I didn’t say that.

What else has Donald Trump NOT been consistent about ?

That's Donald Trump talking, by the way--not what someone else said about him.

If that was so why did he have to explain himself there ?

I’m all for sending them out but it will be a reckoning

Wages will soar as will inflation and blacks and white trash will have to learn to get off disability or welfare and go to back to manual labor

No illegals no welfare and other handouts

It’s gone on so long contractors will have to round up legals to work or have real seasonal guests like they did in agri business when I was young

In Nashville all major construction and road work is Latinos

Foremen and skilled are white

Some concrete gangs are black....very few

Even many iron workers are Mex or some other 4 footer tribe

Because the Trump haters are stupid and desperate to find a way to get him. I saw zero commentary about the wage statement on Twitter while the debate was ongoing.

So a Trump hater actually got in Trump’s face and called him on it ? That’s a new one for me to hear.
