Michelle Malkin: The Myth of H-1B Job Creation
Creators Syndicate ^ | November 13, 2015 | Michelle Malkin

Posted on 11/12/2015 4:37:06 PM PST by jazusamo

Every day brings new headlines, ignored by the Washington press corps, of U.S. workers losing their livelihoods to cheap H1-B visa replacements.

Just this week, Computerworld reported: "Fury and fear in Ohio as IT jobs go to India."

Yet, it remains an article of faith among Big Business flacks and Beltway hacks that H-1B not only protects American jobs, but also fuels miraculous job growth.

The myths are recycled and regurgitated by the likes of Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, who claims that "foreign-born STEM workers complement the American workforce, they don't take American jobs."

Bill Gates, citing the National Foundation for American Policy, which is run by one-man Beltway advocacy research shop operative Stuart Anderson, testified before Congress that "a recent study shows for every H-1B holder that technology companies hire, five additional jobs are created around that person."

Citing another NFAP study by economics professor Madeline Zavodny of Agnes Scott College, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg's FWD.us and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce asserted: "2.62 MORE JOBS are created for U.S.-born workers for each foreign-born worker in the U.S. with a U.S. STEM graduate degree."

But even the reliably pro-immigration expansionist Wall Street Journal had to call out Bill Gates on his misleading testimony to Congress regarding oft-cited NFAP job-creation figures. First off, the data set was confined to S&P 500 technology companies, which "excludes the leading users" of H-1B visas -- offshore outsourcing companies from India such as Infosys, Wipro and Tata.

Moreover, Carl Bialik, the newspaper's "Numbers Guy," reported that the study Gates cited to claim amazing H-1B job generation "shows nothing of the kind. Instead, it finds a positive correlation between these visas and job growth. These visas could be an indicator of broader hiring at the company, rather than the cause."

I’d like to clone Michelle 10,000 times and let them loose to help the masses of low-information voters understand what is happening in America.

Bill Gates ... testified before Congress that "a recent study shows for every H-1B holder that technology companies hire, five additional jobs are created around that person."

Does that mean that the foreign H-1B visa holders are all getting the highest level / highest paid positions? Sure sounds like it to me.

Cruz is also saying we should put a stop to ALL immigration, which I can definitely get behind.

This issue like the illegal alien issue needs to be discussed and the game players exposed and defeated,

If not stopped this issue in the long run might be more disastrous to America than the illegals and the ISIS terrorists.

This bs has the potential of discouraging young Americans from enrolling in STEM studies and not getting degrees and working and not being able to use those studies in good jobs.

Our family on both sides, has STEM graduates, who are working hard with good jobs. Their children, our grandchildren and grand nephews and are enrolled in STEM programs in high school and college level.

They study hard and make good grades in these challenging courses. Then, they apply that knowledge in jobs that need their math/science/engineering knowledge.

If we bring in foreign stem grads, we could destroy the STEM programs at all levels.

Also, after a few years working at STEM jobs here, the foreigners go back to their home companies with our trade secrets as part of their knowledge.

Then, they transfer those skills and secrets to the companies in their countries.

If that happens, our country could become a third world country in a few years, and we would never catch up.

What Cruz is proposing is to strengthen punishments against companies who abuse the H-1B visa program.

He didn’t say a damn thing about walking back his own proposed increases to the H-1B visa program. He completely avoided the question.

Let me know when we have a H-1B visa program for US Senators and he can tout his 500% increase for them.

Agreed. When companies and people like Gates say they have to go outside the country for workers is bunk in my view. I am convinced they do this for the bottom line, especially in cases where our people have to train the foreigners to take those positions from them.

Michelle nails it, figures don't lie but liars figure.

Michelle Malkin sending Orrin Hatch home with only one testicle? Go figure that one.

But then you nailed it: now we know who the liars are, and they include the editorial page of the WSJ, which not that long before 9/11 pounded the table in an editorial that the U.S. Constitution be amended to read:

"There Shall Be Open Borders."

Looks like losing the World Trade Center and 700 Cantor Fitzgerald employees didn't slow them down for long.

And???

Look to Missouri to see what sort of "qualified" folks our colleges are turning out. Maybe refusing to hire them because they can't do crap right would be incentive to return colleges to the actual education vs. indoctrination purpose.

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to Cruz

Donate to FR

Malkin nails it CLOSED!!

I could add that big companies hire major law firms to teach them how to easily get around the H-1B requirements. No, we do NOT need to stop an increase these phony visas, we need to END them!! This program is rife with fraud, and thus it is hopelessly compromised. Hire Americans you greedy pond scum!
