Couldn't it be for the man that is missing from home now, serving in Afghanistan or Iraq?

The Chick-fil-A restaurant closest to my home ALWAYS has a big line at the two drive-thru lanes, and the parking lot is always full.

The one closest to my house is the same. The restaurant simply knocks it out of the park when it comes to the quality of food and service.

And we differentiate them from the office clerks serving in Hawaii, how?
Also, IMHO, active duty are not considered veterans. We honor those serving on Armed Forces Day.

According to the National League of POW/MIA families, as of October 25, 2014-there were/are still 1639 still listed as POW/MIA. Even after all these years, some (many?) may still be alive so I appreciate this effort!

Point well taken.

Happy Veterans Day.

FEDERAL DEFINITION: under Federal Law a VETERAN is any person, who served honorably on active duty in the armed forces of the United States.

The statute further states "active duty," for 180 days or more. Unless it's been changed.

One of my gripes is the blending/confusion between Veterans Day and Memorial Day.....once again, every ceremony in this valley will be held at a cemetery.

Past tense - which agrees with my definition.

I’m just bitching after being retired, but something that always PO’ed me was every woman, draft dodger, student deferment, deserter, etc. got the day off with no DD214. I had to work. No time and a half.

Take note of the organizations hosting the services and contact their leaders. I'll bet most would see the error of their ways.

I served one year on a remote tour in Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan but I'm still in the service, so you are saying I'm not a veteran?

Then you're not a veteran (in the broad context). Thx for your service.

I’ve had two breaks in service, so I’m an on again, off again veteran by your standards.

Maybe a free Veterans Day meal or menu item would be a better tribute. Some of our surviving Vietnam Veterans most likely reside under a nearby bridge due to circumstances.

Veterans day is for the Veterans.
