IMHO, John Stossel is a fair and objective reporter.
Duck and cover...
For crying out loud.
BOTH parties. Everyone in fact, have sold out our country now for so long, that Trump is the only one saying that we need to bring jobs back to America.
He is completely right about that.
“He isn’t the only one whose ego is huge.”
Up against the self-aggrandizement of all the candidates last night, Trump came off as humble. This universal knee-jerk take on Trump’s ego is amazing.
Stossell is a libertarian loser who would sell America to the highest bidder if he could.
Mrs Coking stubbornly refused the million dollar offer for her
pre-WW11 abode. Holding out allowed the casino to be built around
her property She figured she could extract even more money for the
postage-stamp size property. Stossel should have mentioned that.
He offered the woman $1.9 million. She turned it down. She kept the house. What, exactly, is the problem? The news stories never include those points.
Now Stossel should have clarified.... these were not "personal bankruptcies." These were debt-restructuring moves.
Trump did not file for bankruptcy and get to walk away scot-free.......restructuring debt means Trump still had to repay the money.....at even higher interest rates....b/c banks don't do these deals to be nice.
More importantly, there's a question as to whether bankruptcy was even Trump's idea---one ex-Trump exec's book recalled Trump's corporate team sometimes overruled him....to make him do things he did not want to do.
First and foremost, Trump's A/C bankruptcy benefitted banks. A Trump loan gave banks little or no risk; banks lent Trump so much money, they were literally in business w/ him. If he went down, they went down.
So restructuring the debt benefitted banks, and repayment commenced at even higher rates.
Stossel should have been more specific.
I agree with Stossel. I also saw everyone on both stages were people with YUGE egos.
> “Free trade is mutually beneficial. Everybody wins.”
No John, America has been losing because the ‘Free Trade’ has actually been ‘Dumb Trade’.
But if you want agreement with your blurb error, just ask Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and many others.
> “That’s why it’s appalling when Trump calls trade agreements a “disaster” and says he’d “punish” Mexico with higher tariffs (tariffs really punish Americans).””
More than 90 million Americans out of work is not ‘punishment’? Mexico has been ripping off America left and right and everywhere in between, and they should not be ‘punished’?
And by use of the term ‘punished’ is meant taxed or competed against. So are you saying Americans shouldn’t tax the Mexicans for their currency manipulation, wage suppression, environmental pollution and state-sponsored illegal emigration? Oh, one can imagine you to say “but Americans can’t compete with Mexicans”. With a tariff tax on their exports into the USA, they won’t be so competitive and Americans will actually start making things again.
There was a time for so-called ‘Free Trade’, about 40 years ago. Then America had quality problems in manufacturing spurred by unions and management who had grown greedy and complacent. Today one sees the results of ‘Free Trade’ where other nations eat America’s lunch and profit wildly at the expense of Americans while leaving a huge debt for America’s children to face.
Get caught up John. You’re a good reporter but you’re out of touch.
I'll take Trump and eminent domain all day long...
Stossel is not a conservative. He is a liberal-tarian so if he had no problem with Trump that would be a bad sign.
