Ted Cruz wins praise in Heritage Action presidential report
Washington Times ^ | Monday, November 9, 2015 | David Sherfinski

Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas received positive marks in a report from the conservative advocacy group Heritage Action for America on Monday, receiving praise on items ranging from limited government to national security.

In the group’s inaugural Presidential Platform Review, Mr. Cruz receives praise across the board in the areas of growth, opportunity, civil society, limited government, favoritism and national security.

The influential group also wrote in the report that Mr. Cruz has been willing to pay a political price for taking on government favoritism, pointing to his opposition to the Export-Import bank in the recent fight over the bank.

The group had been one of the leading proponents of the 2013 bid to defund Obamacare, which led to a partial shutdown of the federal government, and Mr. Cruz became the face of the fight in the U.S. Senate.

“Americans are looking for a president who can speak to the real anxieties they’re facing, not simply manage the status quo in Washington,” said Heritage Action CEO Michael Needham. “They want someone that will fight the well-connected special interests and advance policies that work for everyone. Fortunately, conservatives have a deep and visionary field to choose from in this Opportunity for All, Favoritism to None primary.”

...

... The report offered measured praise for Mr. Trump’s tax plan, but hit his past statements on trade tariffs and his support of eminent domain, among other things.

On Mr. Carson, the report said he “recognizes the importance of a robust civil society,” but that elements of his history as a doctor stand in contrast to the pro-life views he talks about on the campaign trail, noting “indirect involvement in a research project involving fetal issues.”

It also says Mr. Carson has not sufficiently articulated a plan to defend America’s national security.

Constitutional conservatism is the only true conservatism.

Anything else is just sliding scale progressivism.

Thanks for keeping the facts in the forefront, Isara.

We’re going to need a solid Constitutional conservative if we want to try and turn this country around. Nothing less will do.

The chart is a joke. Now if Cruz is the nominee I will vote for him but I have serious problems with Ted.

First I do not consider Ted eligible to run for president. He was born in Canada to a Canadian father and US mother (had mom applied for Canadian citizenship also like dad did?). IMHO more is required than just having one parent with a US passport to be considered a natural born citizen. If that is the new standard then there are thousand of natural born citizens all over the world and some in nations like Iran that really to not like us.

Second Cruz is known to have been open to "legal status" (eventual citizenship) for illegals living here. Any form of amnesty will mean the Rats get 10-40 million new Marxist voters over the next 10 to 15 years. Give the Rats a super majority and American conservatism is on the ash heap of history. Cruzs' biggest donor is the pro amnesty Club for Growth. Cruz flat out refuses to say he would enforce existing immigration law.

Cruz voted to give Obama fast track authority for the job killing TPP and two other secrete trade deals that no one is allowed to read. How anyone in their right minds could vote to give O more power is beyond me.

Cruz voted to reauthorize the unconstitutional Patriot Act. How can someone that claims to love the US Constitution vote in favor of ripping the 4th amendment to shreds?

Cruz wanted to punish the Egyptians for overthrowing their Muslim Brotherhood government, Really Ted? Your siding with the Muslim Brotherhood? In fairness he finally got the issue right but he revealed a serious lack of understanding about the middle east.

Cruz went to the border with Glen Beck and handed out Teddy Bears to illegal invader as they crossed over our southren Borders! Clearly Ted does not take border security seriously.

There is more but my fingers are tried of typing so I stop here.

Trump supported TARP, auto bailout and Porkulus bill.

Trump's Record on Free-market Issue: (from the Conservative Review)

Trump has a terrible record on free market issues. The only bright spot is the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing, but this glimmer is countermanded by his repeated support for bailing out Wall Street and the auto industry, and increased stimulus spending. Of particular concern is Trump's belief that the government can use eminent domain powers to seize private property in the name of private economic development. This comes as no surprise, given his support for using eminent domain to profit his own company.

Trump supported the Supreme Court’s 2005 decision in Kelo v. City of London, allowing public authorities to seize private land for economic development by private investors; Trump said, “I happen to agree with [the decision] 100 percent.” (National Review)  This is no surprise given Trump’s attempt to use eminent domain in his own line of work. (Institute for Justice)

Trump supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, saying: “The word stimulus is probably not used in its fullest…you know, certain of the things that were given weren't really stimulus. They were pork, as we call it, or they were gifts to certain people. But overall, I think he's [President Obama] doing very well. You do need stimulus and you do have to keep the banks alive.” (CNN

Trump supported TARP, saying, "You had to do something to shore up the banks, because ... you would have had a run on every bank." (CNN

Trump supported the 2008 auto bailout, saying, “I think the government should stand behind them 100 percent. You cannot lose the auto companies. They’re great. They make wonderful products.” He also said that the federal government could “easily save the companies.” (Daily Caller

Trump criticized the Federal Reserve’s intervention in the debt market, saying quantitative easing creates “phony numbers” that mislead the marketplace and “will not ultimately benefit the economy. The dollar will go down in value and inflation will start rearing its ugly head.” (CNBC

Donald Trump has a history of using eminent domain to complete business deals. Multiple times Trump has supported the use of government agencies to take possession of homes and businesses for use in his private business plans. Eminent domain seizures are reserved only for public use of property rather than abuse by the government taking property from one individual and giving to another. (Washington Post

Donald Trump has sought and received crony capitalist tax breaks for his commercial properties in New York. These tax breaks, and even an abatement, force the property taxes of other property owners to rise at the expense of the connected. Special treatment for one business or industry over another with the tax code conflicts with free market principles. (National Review

In 2009, Trump supported Barack Obama's call for limits on the pay of executives. (CNN)

Trump IS THE ONLY candidate standing up AGAINST THE TPP right now. Just like he is the ONLY candidate that is for building a wall and sending them back.

Cruz was for the TPP and even voted for the TPA that gave Obama the fast track.

However, I will give Cruz the credit for changing his position and admitting that voting for the TPA was a mistake.

Trump does too, but he covers it with bland verbiage like, 'We'll bring back the good ones,' with not a word as to how many, or what constitutes "good."

Trump says he wants them to come here legally. Personally I think the nation needs to greatly reduce immigration so recent immigrate can be assimilated. But there is a big difference between repatriating illegals and then allow some to legally immigrate here then allowing them to stay and then giving them legal status.

I believe that is the general sentiment across the entire country, but for those who see more as a way to profit or power.

But there is a big difference between repatriating illegals and then allow some to legally immigrate here then allowing them to stay and then giving them legal status.

Who said anything about "repatriating" them? Not Trump. He just talks about getting them "out." Out where? Processing centers just over the border? That was the Kay Bailey Hutchison RINO-Crat plan back in 2007, rejected back then as a closet amnesty.

Remember: What Trump says is designed to play to your fantasies. He even says so:

I play to people's fantasies. People may not always think big themselves, but they can still get very excited by those who do. That's why a little hyperbole never hurts. People want to believe that something is the biggest and the greatest and the most spectacular. (Donald Trump - The Art of the Deal, 1987) Caveat emptor.
