There are 112 detainees left at the prison, including dozens that are considered "too dangerous to release" that would need to be transferred to the U.S. mainland.

My friend ran the place back in 2007, and even back then the people that were still held there were "the worst of the worst". Many have been released since then, so the ones who remain now are likely some of the most evil human beings imaginable.

The stinking, proven-liars, EXEMPT GOP
will all over this, just like they were
with ObamaCARE, ObamaTRADE, arming al Qaeda,
importing new diseases by Quartering, and
leaving the borders WIDE OPEN.

Our SF people are tired of hunting down the Obama sponsored grads of Gitmo. We should keep them or shoot them. Why risk more lives.

he might seek to close the prison through executive action.

Might? We've expected this for eight years.

Some battle. The Republicans will surrender and give Obama everything he asks for like they always do.

It’s not necessary to close it, just depopulate it.

Executions begin at Sunrise.

Thats a VERY big part of it. IMO the other part is a simple FU to anyone opposing terrorist muslims.

Gitmo exists to make it harder for liberals to defend terrorists. Look how hard they fight to shove liberal judge decisions on events there. Ergo Barry wants it gone. Simply to spite America.

President Obama is on a collision course with congressional Republicans over the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, with increasing chatter in Washington that he might seek to close the prison through executive action.

He knows it still takes 67 votes to dethrone him and the wimpy Republicans couldn't muster 67 votes for anything except their own pay increase.

“Facilities in the United States are up to the task. There’s no reason to think a Guantánamo detainee is any more likely to escape from Supermax than any other federal prisoner,” she wrote in a New York Times op-ed earlier this month. “Congress should take tangible steps to close Guantánamo.”

Stupid woman. It's not about the security. It's about them getting dumped into the civilian federal judicial system, which will promptly release them so that they can go on jihad again.

It has been my belief for awhile that this President wants (for reasons I do not know) to be impeached.

Some of words and actions do not make sense. Even if he believes what he says, it would be better for him not to say it, rather than set up the conflict that will follow from his words (rather than his action).

I mean if he wanted to close Gitmo, just do it. He is the commander in chief, he can order the military to transfer the prisoners else where.

I know, congress has put restrictions on some of his action, but when has he let small things stop him (especially when he has no problem ignoring the Constitution.)

So the question I have, who benefits if he is in fact impeached?

Just move all the muzzies to Hawaii. That state is mostly democrat to begin with, so a few extremists won’t add a huge burden to the existing issues.

Like it or not, Congress has allowed the presidency wide executive power through their inaction.

Future presidents will now act unilaterally to go around Congress.

Congress has been “reduced” to being hand maidens for K-Street lobbyists and the donor class while the president is allowed to run wild.

The big losers as usual are the taxpayers on Main St. as the central government moves further away from the people.

LOL!

I wonder if the Muslim-In-Chief will run away to join ISIS after January 2017...

Does he still get Secret Service protection if he's over in Syria?
