Agreed. The problem is the people criticizing the mother don’t know how it works and that it’s not a flat fee but percentage which can take a huge chunk. Both companies charge a percentage on the total.

By the way I note that the outfit helping to set up the fund “takes a cut” of the donations. Good Lord EVERYBODY has their hand out for a fee.

Okay but did she use the money to pay for the funeral? What should she do with what’s left?
A few thoughts:
1) When you give a gift it is a gift, you give up all control and can’t complain when it isn’t used as you intended. If you don’t like that, don’t give.
2) Using funds for a down payment left her with bigger problem in how to pay for the rest of it.
3) It is easy to turn to things for solace. Doesn’t help, but we do it.
It is sort of like Paypal, VISA, Mastercard, etc. They all get a cut of every use for payments and purchases.
Those ‘cuts’ are their fees for their services.
From what is out there, she has used some of the money for some funeral expenses. (although I always thought funerals were one big bill, perhaps I’m wrong. Someone can weigh in on this that knows more about these things.)
I dunno, go back to school to learn a skill so she can move the hell out of this crappy environment.
Put it in a bank to save for a rainy day...now there’s a thought!

In all fairness, I remember a rural white girl fifty years ago who won some prize and said she was going to spend the prize money on a high bred Charolais bull.
A few days later, she decided to buy a new car instead of the bull.
not sure how true, but there was a notation that the Funeral home offered to pick up the cost.
After burying her son what she does with the rest of it is up to her. Either the money was given as a free gift or it wasn’t.
She'd still have to buy a grave site and headstone.
Her own money as down payment? You mean there are Auto stamps now for blacks?
People in her social-economic class don't think that way. Here's what will happen. She will never make a single payment on that car. She will drive it until it gets repossessed and then she'll resume taking the bus again.

There was a woman that was squatting in my neighbor’s house. Took them months of legal effort to evict her.
I helped them with service several times and when we learned her name, we discovered she is all over these sites with sob stories asking for money. Most say her dog is in intense pain and she needs money for vet fees.
I am not saying this one was bogus, but begging on line beats standing on a freeway off ramp.
Do you understand that people give money to victims to help them NOT to grease the palms of fat cats?
