Last week, The New York Times published an exclusive about how Greenland is melting away. They had satellite photos and drone footage of the massive river formed by the melting ice sheet. It could raise sea levels by 20 feet, and could turn the world into something seen in Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence. In the film, global warming has flooded the coastlines and pretty much decimated humanity:
For years, scientists have studied the impact of the planet's warming on the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets. But while researchers have satellite images to track the icebergs that break off, and have created models to simulate the thawing, they have little on-the-ground information and so have trouble predicting precisely how fast sea levels will rise.
Yes, about the Antarctic ice sheetâit isn't melting, according to a study by NASA:
A new NASA study says that an increase in Antarctic snow accumulation that began 10,000 years ago is currently adding enough ice to the continent to outweigh the increased losses from its thinning glaciers.
The research challenges the conclusions of other studies, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Changeâs (IPCC) 2013 report, which says that Antarctica is overall losing land ice.
According to the new analysis of satellite data, the Antarctic ice sheet showed a net gain of 112 billion tons of ice a year from 1992 to 2001. That net gain slowed to 82 billion tons of ice per year between 2003 and 2008.
"We're essentially in agreement with other studies that show an increase in ice discharge in the Antarctic Peninsula and the Thwaites and Pine Island region of West Antarctica," said Jay Zwally, a glaciologist with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, and lead author of the study, which was published on Oct. 30 in the Journal of Glaciology. "Our main disagreement is for East Antarctica and the interior of West Antarctica there, we see an ice gain that exceeds the losses in the other areas." Zwally added that his team "measured small height changes over large areas, as well as the large changes observed over smaller areas."
The Christian Science Monitor added that this study challenges the hypotheses relating to the causes for the rise in sea levels:
"The good news is that Antarctica is not currently contributing to sea level rise, but is taking 0.23 millimeters per year away," said Dr. Zwally.
"But this is also bad news," he added. "If the 0.27 millimeters per year of sea level rise attributed to Antarctica in the IPCC report is not really coming from Antarctica, there must be some other contribution to sea level rise that is not accounted for."
The paper calls attention to how difficult it is for scientists to measure small changes in ice height, particularly in East Antarctica, the largest part of the polar continent and the one that showed discrepancies with previous measurements.
Take that, you “global warming” ice-holes!
Let me be the first ... must be global warming.
But But But what about global warming? /s
I’ve got to be quicker ...
Looks like the Kenyan is going to be summoning some NASA “folks” to the woodshed. They seem to have wandered off of his commie plantation. Just can’t trust those “typical white people.”
Off with their heads!
Most impressive was a series of space and earth based monitoring systems to track the climate.
By the 2006, the NASA system was operational and providing the data needed to prove or disprove various global warming scenarios and assumptions.
The results were not supportive of global warming and they actually disproved many underlying assumptions of the Global Warming activists with hard science data.
This infuriated and embarrassed the scientific, political and activist classes that were pushing the Global Warming Agenda, including many at NASA
When Obama took office, one of his first actions was to cut NASA funding to the bone. While it is hard to prove that the reason Obama blamed NASA was to stop the flood of “bad news” disproving Global Warming, it is a fact that once Obama took office, the flow of NASA research reports disproving Global Warming slowed to a trickle.
Well of course! You know, I mean know down to the soles of your feet that the globull warming crowd unquestioningly believes that global warming can cause an increase in ice build up. It doesn't have to make sense, science doesn't matter, facts are for fools...all that matters to them is the message and the power/control they crave.
“Think of the polar bears!”
Amen!
I recently got around to reading Mark Steyn’s “A Disgrace to the Profession.” In the book, Steyn provides quotes from a hugely impressive group of scientists. They reduce Michael Mann’s hockey stick to a well chewed toothpick.
Very bad news for the Warmist cult.
“”But this is also bad news,” he added. “If the 0.27 millimeters per year of sea level rise attributed to Antarctica in the IPCC report is not really coming from Antarctica, there must be some other contribution to sea level rise that is not accounted for.””
WoW! Now, that’s simply brilliant!!!!
How about ground water coming from small springs, flowing into creeks, creeks flowing into rivers and rivers flowing into the oceans?
Do these idiots realize that most of that water is rain runoff but they seem to forget that a large portion of ground water is very old (and some cases thousands of years old) and was there far longer than these idiots expected. Furthermore, seepage from above is very slow and runoff down into caves is stored for many, many years...even before politically correct and totally political “science” was ever thought of.
Also, it COULD raise sea levels by 9,000,000 feet. Any fictitious number will do when using "could" in a sentence about fictitious science.
This is a total 180.....why?
John Coleman was interviewed this morning on AM radio and he always debunks the Democrat theme of Global Warming, which he and thousands of fellow scientist continually debunk.

The DeSmogBlog Project began in January 2006 and quickly became the worldâs number one source for accurate, fact based information regarding global warming misinformation campaigns.
TIME Magazine named DeSmogBlog in its â25 Best Blogs of 2011â list. Our articles and stories are routinely highlighted in the worldâs most popular news outlets and blogs: New York Times DotEarth, Huffington Post, Daily Kos, ThinkProgress, and Treehugger, to name a few. DeSmogBlog has won the Canadian Public Relation Societyâs Leadership in Communication award, and was voted Canadaâs âBest Group Blogâ by their peers.
The successes of the DeSmogBlog have attracted the attention of the media in North America and the UK. Our work has generated stories in major traditional media outlets including The New York Times, The UK Guardian, BBC, The Globe and Mail, Associated Press and CBC. In our capacity as research experts in global warming misinformation campaigns we have assisted major media such as ABC News, Associated Press, BBC World Service and The Globe and Mail in the development of global warming story ideas and content.
The DeSmogBlog team is led by Jim Hoggan, founder of James Hoggan & Associates, one of Canada’s leading public relations firms. By training a lawyer, by inclination a ski instructor and cyclist, Jim Hoggan believes that integrity and public relations should not be at odds â that a good public reputation generally flows from a record of responsible actions. His client list includes real estate development companies, high tech firms, pharmaceutical, forest industry giants, resorts and academic institutions. He is also a Board Member of the David Suzuki Foundation.
You can go here to read Jim’s popular DeSmogBlog manifesto: Slamming the Climate Skeptic Scam.
The DeSmogBlog team is especially grateful to our founding benefactor John Lefebvre, a lawyer, internet entrepreneur and past-president of NETeller, a firm that has been providing secure online transactions since 1999. John has been outspoken, uncompromising and courageous in challenging those who would muddy the climate change debate, and he has enabled and inspired the same standard on the blog.
Finally, for nearly a decade we have depended on our technical team at Catalyst Internet to keep up and running at the leading edge of web technologies. They build great sites for publishing and campaigning on Drupal, NationBuilder and more.
