The person hiring can’t ask about that 10-year gap in the resume with no job (because the applicant was in prison)? Or does the applicant fudge it by claiming that he was employed by a company that made license plates?
Not a mistake but if you did it at 19, you can’t get a job at 45?
Yes, I understand the catch-22 this presents us. If they aren’t working, they have to rob and steal an awful lot of our stuff to survive. Even more if they have to feed a drug addiction.
Should have thought about that before committing the crime.
Why should a criminal’s past become an employer’s problem?
Nope. It just means the application won't go straight into the trash.
George Bush got a DUI and was able to become President. Should he have been unqualified? Of course he is filthy rich so I guess it doesn’t matter.
A company I used to work for had an unspoken policy to not hire anyone who had been employed in the public sector. I should also add that a few bloated private companies were also on the “list.” They were not workers. There were only a very few exceptions.
How do we know it always goes into the trash? Seems to me that’s making a huge assumption without any proof to back it up.
Obama is just trying to score points here.
Ya. Apparently, he has never heard of the term “going postal.”

This is going to be a full-employment program for lawyers.
Employers have a responsibility for the safety of their employees. But now a comely young woman could have a convicted rapist co-worker in the next cube, and the employer will have no idea.
Though he will still be liable if she is assaulted.
Do you really want me to answer that? ;)
Next step is to not allow employers to take past criminal records into account. This is just the first step.
Key words:
George Bush TRYING ...
That’s what I intend to reverse.
You have a point. I have a criminal record and a secret clearance. I checked 'yes' on the box, explained my transgressions (a whole stack of misdemeanors from my teens and 20s) and still got the job.
Just got my clearance renewed for another ten years. No additional crimes to report.
You made my point. By forcing people to be upfront about it gives them a chance to clear it out of the way. But if an employer has to find out via a background check, there is no way then they will get the job.
Also from the company’s perspective, let’s say they see a potential employee is qualified but does have a record, they might be willing to hire because they know they can pay less for them, than somebody with a clean record. Sucks for the person who doesn’t have a record, though.
Well after the fact I agree. However, everyone was pretty on board his election at first.
In a year people will be forced to hire lowlife criminals... If the Ferguson Thug Brown had lived he could have a nice cush6y job - even been able to strong arm those he didn’t like.
Obama’s renaming Fed Human Resources into “Thugs R Us”...
Someone who checks the box is not automatically disqualified in my book. Checking it denotes a modicum of honesty, at least.
