Cruz: Next president will get do-over on IRS-tea party investigation
Washington Times ^ | Monday, November 2, 2015 | Stephen Dinan

Already planning for a GOP president in 2017, Sen. Ted Cruz sent a letter Monday demanding that the Justice Department preserve all documents from its completed investigation into the IRS's tea party targeting, saying too many questions still remain.

Mr. Cruz, a Texas Republican who is himself seeking his party's presidential nomination, said the department's decision to close the investigation and clear IRS employees of any wrongdoing was a sign of just how broken the Justice Department has become.

"It is important for you and other officials in this Administration to understand that this administration's decisions to neither continue this investigation nor appoint a special prosecutor do not represent the conclusion of this matter," Mr. Cruz said in a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch. "Given this Administration's refusal to conduct itself appropriately, or take the issue of the potential illegal conduct of IRS employees seriously, any subsequent administration should reserve the right to reopen the matter, conduct its own investigation, or appoint a special prosecutor to conduct an investigation."

Mr. Cruz charged Ms. Lynch with preserving all documents obtained by her investigators during their probe, and said copies should be given to the National Archives and to the department's inspector general so they could also preserve them.

And the senator warned that anyone who doesn't comply with his request could face criminal penalties.

"It is my hope that a future administration would pursue justified prosecutions with all due energy," he said.

He’s the only one in DC doing anything worthwhile and he still can’t get out of single digit ratings. Bah.

Really? I am so dismayed over that last election where a bunch of Republicans said they’d do this or that and then rolled over to the Democrats. I’m jaded. Politicians say stuff that people want to hear and then when they get in office it changes because of pressure .... ????

Hope he included some verbiage about "missing documents will be treated as if the content were maximally incriminating".

Telling leftist scum to preserve documents will be interpreted as "Shred as fast as you can! Honest people are threatening to want to look at these!"

If Yeb, Rubio, Christie, Kasich, Fiorina or Huckabee are elected there will be no do-over.

There may be the opportunity for one, but there will be no do-over.

Honestly, I will be the most surprised person in the nation if either president s Trump or Cruz would re-open this case.

How about a do over on all of Obumbo's Executive Actions?

How about a do over on all the Muslim sympathizers hired to work in our government?

Oh, the list goes on and on.

The biggest disservice GWB did to America was failing to go after anyone in the Clinton for their crimes.

Hope the next Republican president doesn't make the same mistake.

I like very much what Sen Cruz is doing but this just made Obama resolve to pardon anyone and everyone in his administration for any wrong doing as he leaves office in January 2017

W left all the left wing appointments in place, in the CIA, FBI, State dept, etc.

And they sabotaged him every chance they got.

Theres a reason the left squealed so loudly when he dismissed those 7 US attorneys - their leftwing appointments are their guarantee their leftwing agenda will never suffer any setbacks no matter who’s in the White House or on Capitol Hill.
