The former leaders of New York's two legislative chambers face simultaneous public corruption trials this month in a Manhattan federal courthouse, shining a spotlight on the sordid side of state politics.
Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, long one of the state's most powerful lawmakers, goes on trial this week on charges that he used his office to collect millions of dollars in kickbacks and bribes.
Dean Skelos, former Senate majority leader, faces his own criminal trial on Nov. 16. He is charged with taking official actions on behalf of several companies in exchange for payments to his son.
Together with Governor Andrew Cuomo, Silver, a Democrat, and Skelos, a Republican, wielded virtually absolute control in Albany over everything from the state budget to key legislation. That so-called "three men in a room" system, in which the holders of those three offices hash out deals in secret, has long troubled good government advocates.

Both.
The eternal quest for free government is how to turn personal interest toward the public good.
Yeah, and the eternal quest of most politicians is to turn public power to personal gain.
The silver retirement fund.
Hmmm, well before reading the article, since I did not see the party affiliation in 72 point flashing font repeated 17 times in the title, I will have to guess (D)
Skelos was trash...the question here in NY is will the fraud investigators have the guts to go after Cuomo? Cuomo is more corrupt than his daddy and his political career should be ended IF investigators do their job...
“Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, long one of the state’s most powerful lawmakers, goes on trial this week on charges that he used his office to collect millions of dollars in kickbacks and bribes.”
You know, I’ve always wanted to see Silver lose an election and get kicked out of office by the voters. But this will have to do much nicer.
Skelos and Silver both suck. Eff ‘em.
Both what?
The silver retirement fund is not a party

I had to do a search in Bing to find out the party affiliation of Sheldon Speaker; not that I expected anything different. Notice the party of Skelos is mentioned in the 4th paragraph of the article.
“Skelos and Silver both suck. Eff âem.”
Put both of them in the same cell for the rest of their lives. Let ‘em Eff each other!
That would make an excellent bumper sticker!
Silver, majority leader of the State Assembly is a metroplitan NYC DemRat. Skelos , is majority leader of the State Senate is an upstater (anything North of Westchester County)who is GOPee.
They are both members of the UNI-Party consortium / conspiracy
Interestingly enough, Cuomo fabricted an investigation into NY corruption, but, when it got close to exposing Cuomo's contributors,
he summarily and suddenly terminated the investigation.
This sudden action resulted in the FED wondering why the investigations were suddenly terminated by the Governor, which prompted the FEDs inquiry into NY finances .
It seems the State Attorney General, Sneiderman , would rather prosecute banks , stock transactions , and zoneing violations rather than look into corruption .
Actually , they are all members of the UNI-Party !
Both parties. One Dem, one Rep.
No Bing search necessary; from that fourth paragraph: "Silver, a Democrat, and Skelos, a Republican,"
One D, one R.
What a pack of amateurs you have there in New Yawk.
In Chicago, we make sure it’s ‘legal’ first, then we shove it up the taxpayers’ ass.
Yeah that is good and fine. However the party for Former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, long one of the state's most powerful lawmakers, goes on trial this week on charges that he used his office to collect millions of dollars in kickbacks and bribes, is not mentioned at all.
That was my point. I hope you got it
