Exclusive: GOP campaigns plot revolt against RNC

The Sunday evening meeting comes after an eruption of complaints by the candidates about the debates. Republican presidential campaigns are planning to gather in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening to plot how to alter their party’s messy debate process — and how to remove power from the hands of the Republican National Committee.

Not invited to the meeting: Anyone from the RNC, which many candidates have openly criticized in the hours since Wednesday’s CNBC debate in Boulder, Colorado — a chaotic, disorganized affair that was widely panned by political observers.

On Thursday, many of the campaigns told POLITICO that the RNC, which has taken a greater role in the 2016 debate process than in previous election cycles, had failed to take their concerns into account. It was time, top aides to at least half a dozen of the candidates agreed, to begin discussing among themselves how the next debates should be structured and not leave it up to the RNC and television networks.

The gathering is being organized by advisers to the campaigns of Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Bobby Jindal and Lindsey Graham, according to multiple sources involved in the planning. Others who are expected to attend, organizers say, are representatives for Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio and Rick Santorum. The planners are also reaching out to other Republican candidates.

“viewers and the candidates can expect the same results next month with moderators Maria Bartiromo and Neil Cavuto.”

Uh, that’s the problem, not the solution.

I would love to hear the candidates real opinion of Reince.

I personally don’t give two shakes how they structure the debates ... I just want to see Reince powerless. Cannot stand the pompous twerp.

Cavuto should be good unless the big boys succeed in pressuring him to try and achieve a goal. Wonder is Cruz is in this group. Just because media doesn’t mention him doesn’t mean he isn’t there. They do their best to ignore him though he is difficult to ignore.

The Jebster is not on that list. Wouldn’t it be sweet if they didn’t include him? (a gal can dream)

Politico is so naive.

Nothing including Graham, Jindal and Fiorina and not including Cruz could accurately be called ‘revolt against the RNC’.

I'd like to see them go up to Wisconsin and find that guy with the funny name and uh, reason with him, make him an offer he can't refuse, you know what I mean?

And then give him a second chance, just to show that they're reasonable people.

sorry....NOTHING would change if Reince were replaced.

We need the top 5 to revolt and cause an overthrow of the RNC structure.

We’re talking about State Primary rules, media relationships and contracts.

It really means turning the GOP INTO a third party, without a name change.

Inviting Linda Graham to a meeting who's intent could be to wrest a process away from the RNC? That's as dumb as the process itself.

I’m surprised Rube-o is attending, considering the media loves him. Maybe he’s just upset that they love ¡Yeb! more?

Cruz lead the attack at the debate. I would guarantee he is in there and is just, again, being ignored by the Media machine.

In this case, maybe it’s a good thing Cruz is ignored. He can lead but he doesn’t have to do all the heavy lifting. He’ll still get the benefit of an improved process. Hopefully.

The DNC had better hope they didn’t really pi$$ off The Donald. He is very good at getting even.

Lindsey Graham has a campaign manager? Wow! Who knew? I thought he was just doing bus rides and eating hamburgers in the early primary states.

Sources at Fox Business Network, the hosts of the next GOP debate on Nov. 10, said that as of Thursday afternoon, they hadn't heard from any campaigns or the RNC about their debate format, but that they weren't concerned. They pointed to positive reviews of the first GOP debate, hosted by Fox News, and noted that though it's Fox Business' first debate, viewers and the candidates can expect the same results next month with moderators Maria Bartiromo and Neil Cavuto.

This is why the format needs to be under the control of the candidates. Fox has already made it clear they won't be objective, fair, or balanced. They are in the tank for whomever supports open borders ie., Bush or Rubio.

I'm not a Trump supporter. I support Cruz. However, it's easy to see that neither candidate gets treated fairly as it is now.

I have never understood 2 things:

1) Why the Republican Party allows obvious liberals and Leftists to question Republican candidates. Use the media outlets to broadcast the debates, but have your own FAIR moderators. IOW, tell them, “We’re producing this show, if you want to air it and sell commercials for it, fine, but you just air it, period.”

2) Why there is cross-over voting allowed in ANY primary. How f’ing stupid are they to allow Dems to help decide who the Republican candidate is going to be? Yes, I know, that’s a rhetorical question - the answer is: “Galactically stupid.”

I have never understood 2 things:...

Understand that the Democrat Party and the Republican Party is just one large Uni-Party that seeks to expand Government and the power in Washington DC - and it makes sense. The Republican leaders want the process to push a leftist/moderate candidate.

They'll play games of saying one thing, and voting/governing another way. If an establishment mole is in trouble they will let him/her vote in a manner that will satisfy their constituents - only as long as the overall vote yields the desired outcome (less freedom to the individual, and more power to the Federal Government).
