I’m not a big fan of Rand, but when he’s doing something right, he deserves all of our support. I heavily favor what he’s doing here.

Dr. Paul just tweeted that he needs 41 senators to stand with him between now and 1am for the filibuster to continue. Where is your senator!? Call now and let them know to stand with rand and vote NO on the disastrous debt ceiling bill. (202) 224-3121

Typical. I didn’t like 99% of it, but just had to vote yes for the veterans. You understand, don’t you?

Who will you get to run against this guy? What an easy campaign. Your COLA is zero grandma, but this guy just raised government’s cost of living by $18 billion (which is way low since all the savings come nearly a decade from now).

Primary him Mom, primary him!

You know what? That’s exactly what I told Jason or Justin or whatever his J name is. It’s unlike me to be HIGH drama (settle for low , occasionally medium) but I am sooooo angry about this I said if someone primaries him, I’m supporting him.

Start tonight. Team up with others in your community. Look into his supporters and his margin of victory. We have to start getting aggressive with these jerks. There’s only 79 of them in the House that voted for this. Knock out only a dozen and you put the fear into the rest.

Rand spoke for barely 20 minutes and then left to send out fund raising letters on his filibuster. What a bunch of BS. The squishy GOPe has already decided this budget is a done deal and the rest is just for show.

Much like the Paul Ryan vote ... everyone knows the outcome and now it’s just a matter of when.

Rand is a hypocrite. He slammed Ted Cruz for that kind of thing.

You're being low information here, frome Breitbart: “I will continue this filibuster as long as there are enough votes here to allow it to continue,” he said on the Senate floor Thursday. Senior staffers for Paul tell Breitbart News that the Kentucky lawmaker’s objections forced Senate leadership to attempt to end debate on the budget deal, resulting in a filibuster. “A Filibuster in the Senate is the act of forcing the leadership to attempt to end debate. They can do this by time and votes. They have to wait one day plus one hour and then they can attempt to cut off debate with 60 votes. If they succeed then 30 more hours are allowed,” senior staffers explained to Breitbart. “So a filibuster of this bill causes them to have to get a supermajority and wait multiple extra days with full public debate in front of the American people for this trash heap of a bill,” they added. In order to continue blocking the bill, Paul will need to muster at least 40 votes in opposition in order to prevent a 60 vote supermajority, which would advance the agreement. “We’re in the middle of a filibuster,” Paul said on the floor. “This filibuster will go on to about 1:00 in the morning and then we will find out who the true conservatives in this town are.” UPDATE: A spokesman for Sen. Rand Paul emails: Sen. Paul has been and continues to filibuster the unlimited debt limit increase. Tonight at 1:00 am, the Majority Leader will attempt to end Sen. Paul’s filibuster with a cloture vote. If 41 Senators stand with Sen. Paul, the filibuster will continue." So it looks like he doesn't have to keep talking and hold the floor to continue the filibuster. He's already forced them to at least wait one day and one hour to be able to vote, and they need 60 to end the debate and stop his filibuster. That's why they're posting on Facebook and Twitter asking people to call their Senators and tell them to vote against ending debate.

LOL ... low information Kate ... yep, that’s me.

so how did that filibuster work out for us?

Yep, they passed that TWO YEAR “budget” 64-35 w/ 18 R’s on board.

But I’m sure Rand raised a few bucks for his campaign. What will be interesting to note is did those $$$$ go into his defunct run for Prez or for his Senate campaign? Hmmmm.

Whoa, Rand Paul is actually doing something useful for a change instead of whining about how Americans are killing Muslims, like he usually does.

Had no idea Rand did go through with the filibuster. But it failed as the senate still passed the Budget last night.

Well I think you’re right ... that Rand didn’t filibuster. But some folks want to parse the word and say that it was a filibuster. Even assuming it was a filibuster (cough, cough, it wasn’t) ... Rand’s stunt had zero impact on the outcome of the vote.

It was a done deal from the get go ...

Hey, when defeat is eminent you would rather politicians just shut up and go along to get along? At least Cruz and Paul both tried. Sheesh.

I’m not trying to fight w/you. But I just disagree that less than 20 minutes of yakking is anything more than a political stunt. Rand knew what he was doing would not stop anything ... he knew this before he began ... he knew the rules were designed to allow the vote to proceed.

What Rand did was a manufactured, bogus filibuster to try to get Rand some sort of attention ... cuz he sure didn’t get any positive attention during the bogus CNBC debate.

No, Rand delayed the vote with his “yakking” and allowed the public to reach out to their reps to get them to vote against the bill. You think the vote would have been at 1 am if he hadn’t done the procedural filibuster?

It was a noble effort and I applaud both Cruz and Paul for it.
