Chatter: Conway hold 5-point lead on Bevin in Bluegrass Poll; RGA drops $1M in final week

The last public gubernatorial survey from Bluegrass Poll partners shows Democratic candidate Jack Conway maintaining a slim lead over Republican candidate Matt Bevin.

The poll, conducted by SurveyUSA on behalf of the Lexington Herald-Leader, WKYT-TV, the Louisville Courier-Journal, and WHAS-TV, shows Conway leading Bevin 45 percent to 40 percent. Independent candidate Drew Curtis has dropped in polling with 6 percent of the vote, and 10 percent of the survey’s respondents were undecided.

The poll survey 798 likely voters between Oct. 23 to 26, and has a margin of error of 3.5 percent.

The Conway campaign told the Courier-Journal that they have the momentum on their side entering the final six days of the campaign. Conway campaign spokesman Daniel Kemp told the Louisville newspaper that Bevin “continues to prove that he doesn’t have the temperament to lead as our next governor.”

Bevin campaign spokesman Ben Hartman said the poll shows that Conway has “failed to convince Kentuckians that he should be our next Governor.”

“Despite the Conway/Obama team spending over $12 million attacking Matt with lies and misrepresentations, Kentucky continues to side with Matt Bevin because he provides concrete solutions to the problems that everyday Kentuckians face,” Hartman said in an emailed statement.

Hartman also called into question the accuracy of the Bluegrass Poll after Survey USA showed U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell leading his 2014 Democratic opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes by 5 percentage points in the days leading up to the election. The race ended in a nearly 16-point landslide for McConnell.

The survey also showed the results for down-ballot constitutional offices... ...RGA drops $2.5 million in final two weeks in support of Bevin

The Republican Governors Association has released a trio of new ads supporting Bevin’s candidacy for governor.

I certainly don't like these numbers but since Conway is still not above 45% and there are plenty of undecideds in the poll, even at this late stage, this is still very winnable - if GOP voters are interested enough to turn out. It is a shame that Grimes has pulled considerably ahead in the SOS race as I was hoping we would be rid of her...the fact there was no investment in that race is a tragedy. The only race where a GOP candidate has a clear lead is the Ag Commissioner race, the only state office the GOP currently holds.

So, TURNOUT, TURNOUT, TURNOUT - if you have conservative friends and family in Kentucky, get on the phone and make sure they remember to turn out and vote Tuesday.

FWIW, Bevin has two votes in my household.

I will say this, the Dem’s ads have been filthy and vicious beyond even what I would expect from a Dem. Considering the campaign Bevin has run and his poor responses to their slime, I’m surprised he’s this close.

I’m just sick about the prospect of another 4 years of a lying, law breaking leftist in Frankfort. Beshear authorized the OC exchange illegally and now the Dems are blaming the Pubbies for it’s demise.

Very sad, Bevin is legit.

Then why did he fall all over himself calling for the removal of the Jefferson Davis statue, a statue, mind you, that honors his time as Secretary of War, not the President of the CSA.

He joined McConnell to shamelessly pander when the media was on their anti-Confederate rampage back in June/July.

You are right on...if the Republicans turn out and vote for Bevin in large numbers,...Bevin will win handily!!! I strongly believe, Bvin will win and the Pubbieswill gain a seat from the “hate America” Democrat, Obamabot vermin!!!

There’s a fake independent candidate in the race, he’s there to draw votes away from (the already weak candidate) Bevin, and probably the Demagogic Party recruited him and paid for his candidacy.

I finally came around to voting for Bevin. It was the Dems ASKING people what TAUNT about Bevin they should put on a Frankfort billboard that got to me. None of these clowns cares much about Kentucky at all, just enriching themselves. But if we elect Bevin, we can try to make him act like he cares. He might have a conscience! Our state is in a world of trouble!! We cannot afford anymore monkeying around! I am voting the straight Republican ticket!

I totally agree!! I emailed him reminding him that Christ is the Lord of history, and that God ordained that Davis and Lincoln were born one year and one hundred miles apart IN KENTUCKY. He won’t touch the statue!!

"Independent candidate Drew Curtis has dropped in polling with 6 percent of the vote, - - "

Who is funding the independent candidate, the DNC?

Not that up to date. If he is going for the politically crap, that sucks.

Got to see the Jefferson Davis monument a few weeks ago heading to Georgia. Pretty cool, never even new it existed.
