The Republic of Congo's Flawed Referendum Process
Press Statement John Kirby Department Spokesperson Washington, DC October 28, 2015 Share on facebookShare on twitterShare
The United States is disappointed by the deeply flawed process that culminated in the recent referendum on a new constitution for the Republic of Congo. The credibility of the referendum process was marred by violence, intimidation, and severe restrictions on basic freedoms. In its aftermath, the United States strongly urges all parties to come together peacefully to participate in an inclusive political dialogue.
This dialogue should lead to urgently-needed and agreed-upon electoral reforms which will build confidence in and increase the transparency and credibility of the political process and encourage full participation by all parties. We also call on the Government of Congo to respect its citizensâ rights to freedom of expression, assembly, and association, which are fundamental to a stable, democratic society.

With all the misery, horror going on in the world. murder, rape, genocide, all manner of inhumanity, Kerry and Company are knee deep in the deeply flawed process going on in the Republic of Congo.
Why would anybody worry about a constitution. Worthless scrap of paper.
Mistah Kurtz — he dead.
How does Congo feel about the way Obama has been kicking ours to the curb?
They respect Obama for ignoring the Constitution. He is a strong man in their viewpoint and to be looked up to.
I’m deeply disappointed with how our own has been buried under a heap of regulatory and jurisprudential dung. Their business is their business.
For those not aware, there are two Congos.
The Republic of the Congo, formerly The People’s Republic of the Congo, was a Marxist-Leninist single-party state from 1970 to 1991. Multi-party elections have been held since 1992, although a democratically elected government was ousted in the 1997 Republic of the Congo Civil War and President Denis Sassou Nguesso has ruled for 26 of the past 36 years. Population 4.6 million, concentrated in the southwestern portion of the country, leaving the vast areas of tropical jungle in the north virtually uninhabited. 132,000 square miles.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (aka DR Congo). It is the second largest country in Africa by area and the eleventh largest in the world. With a population of over 75 million, it is the most populated officially Francophone country, the fourth most populated nation in Africa and the nineteenth most populated country in the world. 905,000 square miles.
Heart of Darkness.
The Obama regime has absolutely no moral authority to do anything moral and right or to tell others what to do.
Congo-Brazzaville has been ruled by leftists since the pro-Western government of Fulbert Youlou was toppled by a military coup in 1963.
That's more people than the original Francophone country has.
My gosh, we don’t even pay attention to our own constitution! When will be become concerned about our country?
If the Caliph and John F’in Kerry are pissed at the Congo, I have to assume that the Congo has outlawed Islam, expelled all Muslims and stopped providing aid to Muslim lands.
So the one that Foggy Bottom is bitching about is the more stable one, and the DROC is even worse?
Where the heck is Belgium when you need them? They were a lot more useful a century or so.
If the Caliph and John F’in Kerry are pissed at the Congo, I have to assume that the Congo has outlawed Islam, expelled all Muslims and stopped providing aid to Muslim lands.

Our Constitution and freedom cannot be restored through electoral politics.
It is the responsibility of We the People, acting in our sovereign capacity, to make the Constitution valuable once again.
An Article V convention of the states is our only hope.
I was wondering which foreign government the Obamites were going to target next.
