I advocate a change where members of the House are not elected, but chosen at random, sort of like they pick jurors. You serve for two consecutive terms, and are paid your current income (at whatever job you were at) plus maybe a 25% premium. If you are caught taking a bribe, twenty-five years in prison. I swear that we would would have vastly better representation.

I have long advocated a national lottery for every governmental office, from the president right down to our state reps. Every tax PAYER would get one ticket. It certainly couldn’t be worse than what we have now.

I like it. We would get far better governance by selecting people at random to serve. But it won’t happen for the same reason reform of the tax code won’t happen: those in control of the political system have too much invested in continuing it.
