He arguably did more than any other artist to raise morale during the dark days of the Second World War.
But Noel Coward secretly longed for Nazi bombers to attack Hollywood because he was furious at the failure of fellow British stars in Los Angeles to rally to the countrys aid during the Blitz.
In an angry letter to the novelist and dramatist Clemence Dane, which is among a cache of papers being sold at auction, the playwright and composer said longed for the happy and beautiful bombing raid.

Gosh how bizarre.
The entire world wants them bombed now in 2015.
I don’t think many people would cry if they were.
Nice to see you here again, Mick!
I know I have ever since I sat through Dr. T and the Women...
I knew then that Hollywood was a lost cause.
which, when you look at the political behavior of American and Western Jews today, you can understand....a lot of them seem to have no religious beliefs and are purely secular....no loyalty to Israel..no loyalty to fellow Jews....

Red Star over Hollywood
The Film Colonys Long Romance with the Left
By Ronald and Allis Radosh
"Until now, Hollywood's political history has been dominated by a steady stream of films and memoirs decrying the nightmare of the Red Scare. But Ronald and Allis Radosh show that the real drama of that era lay in the story of the movie stars, directors and especially screenwriters who joined the Communist Party or traveled in its orbit, and made the Party the focus of their political and social lives. The authors' most controversial discovery is that during the investigations of the House Committee on Un-American Activities, the Hollywood Reds themselves were beset by doubts and disagreements about their disloyalty to America, and their own treatment by the Communist Party. Abandoned by their old CP allies, they faced the Blacklist alone."
