Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) says Donald Trumps presidential campaign has been enormously helpful to his own.
If you look at this Republican primary, Im actually very grateful that Donald Trump has been in this race, because I think his campaign has been enormously beneficial to our campaign, Cruz said at the Iowa Candidate Assessment Summit on Saturday.
Why is that? Because it has framed the central question of this primary as Who will stand up to Washington? Cruz continued. Now, if thats the case, the natural next question is OK, who actually has stood up to Washington?
Cruz touted his record as an anti-Washington firebrand in the speech. He described the fight he led in Congress to tie Planned Parenthoods federal funding to a government-spending bill as epic.
About three weeks ago, we had an epic, drag-down fight in Washington. Millions of Americans rose up against Planned Parenthood, Cruz said.
I was proud to lead that fight against Planned Parenthood once again, he added.
The Texan also said he was proud to lead the fight to defund Obamacare in 2013, which resulted in a weeks-long government shutdown. Cruz said other candidates vying for the Republican presidential nomination have been absent from those major battles: Not a one of them was anywhere to be found leading that fight.

In truth, Cruz is a good guy, but a bit of a nerdy intellectual. Trump’s larger than life personae, pulling the same direction as Cruz on fundamental issues benefits them both.
Now, if thats the case, the natural next question is OK, who actually has stood up to Washington?
That logic is so far out in left field, so tortured, it can only mean that Cruz was hard pressed to try to rationalize his status in the polls.
“OK, who actually has stood up to Washington? “”.
The answer....Cruz has, any more questions?
if Trump wasn’t in the race. The media/gopE would be going after Cruz
That’s right.
People should be very grateful to Trump but many of them are not. Trump has transformed how elections will be conducted in the future. He basically sidelined the MSM.
‘it has framed the central question of this primary as Who will stand up to Washington? ’
No. The central question is, who will close the wide open border and restore America’s sovereignty before it’s too lste.
He took off the gloves and went for the jugular.
I don't know if Trump will ultimately win the nomination, but he has exposed the establishment.
There one and the same.
They’re
So if it was Trump v Hitlery you wouldn’t vote?
There is no possible circumstance that could make me vote for Carson, or even not campaign vehemently against him at this point.
He has gone full stop amnesty.
Yes, but that nerdy intellectual has already thought out things 5 steps in advance.
I realized this when he refused to jump on the “Make Trump Apologize” campaign orchestrated by the MSM the first time he mentioned his Mexican wall idea, and every other Republican joined the fray.
I hate to do this, but I think you’re wrong.
In the same way Reagan didn’t hand down an easier to deal with press, Trump won’t either.
That’s the sad thing here.
Folks think this is easy. It isn’t. It takes a special personality to pull it off. When Trump is gone, so is the gravitas he brings to the campaign season.
If Trump was gone, do you think Cruz would suddenly be able to become Trump, and keep the press under control?
I doubt you do.
So what we’re looking at here, and I keep trying to drive this home, is a once in a generation chance to clean house.
If Trump leaves for any reason, we’ve lost a once in 30 years chance.
Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama, McCain, Romney...
That’s all we’ll get for several decades if we muff this chance.
That is a VERY good post. So true, all of it.
You are so right. But, I do think, if Trump is successful and is elected, the MSM will never again be quite as powerful as they have been.
agreed
Cruz may be hard pressed to explain his standing in the polls, true.
But there is nothing whatsoever tortured in the logic of asking whether candidates that know how to talk the talk do or do not have the balls to actually walk the walk.
For sure there are more than just a few who have absolutely no history of doing that. None, in fact, now that Scott Walker is out.
Like Reagan, Trump has that talent to talk over MSM and reach the people.
Hopefully Trump's negotiating skills are as good as Reagan's were. I think they are.
