The BBC's Steve Rosenberg in Moscow says this was a short visit but by hosting the Syrian leader, President Putin's message to the West was clear - that Moscow is a key player in the Middle East, and that there can be no solution to the Syrian conflict without Russia's involvement.
...there can be no solution to the Syrian conflict without Russia's involvement. The only solution to the conflict would be the death of everyone in Syria -- so yeah. That is the path Putin has chosen. Should be fun. No boots on the ground for us, please. No mention was made I suspect of the fact that Putin has blocked every measure that had any chance of success to bring about a negotiated settlement. The BBC did its usual bang-up job in the article linked off the original page; the civil war 'developed' from protests (it didn't -- it 'developed' from Assad's massive crackdown and opening fire on protestors); that 4 million Syrians are making the 'dangerous' trip to safety in Europe -- they aren't, they're mostly jihadists and from many different countries; etc.
“The only solution to the conflict would be the death of everyone in Syria — so yeah. That is the path Putin has chosen.”
What a really stupid comment.
The solution is Assad’s opponents who supports the Sunni position are eliminated. Everything else falls into place.
