EVERYONE who bought a PR Bond in the last 10-15 years knew, with certainty, PR couldn't even pay the interest.

They were simply betting on Uncle Sugar.

Another bailout for the connected.

We are $17 trillion in the red, and everyone knows it may be 10 times that in unfunded mandates. We simply don’t have the money to do anything at all.

This is a slippery slope.

If the fed govt bails out Puerto Rico, then what of states which are in trouble, such as Illinois and California??? Puerto Rico isn’t even a state, but we may bail them out. How could we then not bail out actual states of the United States, once we start down this road????

PR has their OWN government! It’s not the responsibility of US taxpayers to bail them out; particularly when the US can’t even handle its own debt!

Just another typical POTUS move to shovel taxpayers’ money to people like Iranians, Pakistanis, Palastines, and others around the world who HATE the USA.

EXACTLY!

This is not about bailing out Puerto Rico or the people of Puerto Rico, any more than the earlier “bailout” of Mexico was bailing out those people, or the bailout of Greece was bailing out the Greeks...

This is, once again, the buildup to a bailout of the big BANKS and other foolish lenders who ignored the obvious growing risks but who wanted to earn higher interest rates on those bonds!

HELLO, WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Puerto Rico has already acknowledged that they can’t and won’t pay... the only question now is who will bear that loss on the debt? Those who foolishly lent to an over extended borrower, or the sucker tax payers whose representatives want Bank lobbyist $$$$? No surprise on who will win (the big banks) and who will lose (the taxpayer Muppets).

Why can’t the Kenyan just use his phone and pen to help PR? Why does he dump the big stuff on the Congress? Congress needs to tell him to kiss their ...!

Yep, the Federal Government should send all the Citizens of Puerto Rico First Class Plane Tickets to Cuba.

After all, it’s Obama’s idea of Paradise.

So they spent all their money and now it’s my fault and I’m racist if I even suggest saying “no”.

I love Obamaland. :)

I’m guessing their population exploded (due to the demographic group taht is the vast majority there) and the populace used their healthcare services to the point of bankruptcy and beyond. May have to keep those Hispanic families down 5 or 4 people only. I know it will be hard because they multiply almost as fast as Muslim families with 8 as an average...

Hey D.C. I need about a $5 billion dollar bailout.

Give me $5 billion at 0% interest and I promise you I will create jobs in the USA with it.

No, make that $100 billion. As long as we’re doing this.....

The Caliph should fill PR with Islamic refugees. The introduction of industrious Muslims would turn the economy around in months.

So Puerto Rico, how did kicking the U.S. Navy out work out for you?

Puerto Ricans force United States Navy out of Vieques Island, 1999-2003

In response to widespread protest, President Clinton created two committees to report on the Navy's impact in Vieques. Based on the results of these studies, Clinton offered up to $90 million as economic incentive to allow indefinite use of the island for military purposes. A referendum was to be held that would give residents the option between financial support and the removal of the U.S. Navy within three years. Actionists rejected this offer and continued to demand immediate withdrawal. An informal referendum in July 2001 showed that 70% of the population wanted the Navy to leave immediately. President Bush reversed Clinton's attempts to negotiate with Vieques and stated that the Navy would halt military exercises in February and leave the island by May 2003. The closure of both military bases on Vieques was met with an island-wide celebration and support rally. The land was given to the Department of the Interior for the purpose of building a wildlife refuge. Some debate has continued over the high cost of clean up as well as the issues of control and ownership of the former military sites.

Let them default. Creditors can take possession of the island and sell it off in an auction.
