The Scary Specter of Ted Cruz (NYT)
New York Times ^ | OCT. 21, 2015 | Frank Bruni

Posted on 10/21/2015 12:10:05 PM PDT by Isara

...

His campaign has more cash on hand than that of any other Republican in the hunt. If you add “super PAC” money that’s been officially disclosed so far to the tally, he trails only Jeb and Hillary Clinton.

...

He’s the patron saint of lost causes, at least if they bring the spotlight his way. In that sense he’s emblematic of the flamboyantly uncompromising comrades in the so-called Freedom Caucus in the House of Representatives, who similarly confuse attention with accomplishment.

All of them, with Cruz as their spiritual leader, have turned petulance into a theory of governing, or rather anti-governing, as they breezily disregard the contradiction of their ravenous lunge to become monarchs of a kingdom that they supposedly want to topple, to gain power over a system that they ostensibly intend to enfeeble.

Cruz doesn’t propose remedies. He performs rants. He’s not interested in collaboration or teamwork. His main use for other politicians, even in his party, is as foils and targets. Paul Ryan got a taste of that over the weekend, when Cruz, on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” was asked if Ryan was a true conservative and dodged the question, withholding his blessing.

He should be careful about genuineness versus phoniness, given the problems with his own prairie-populist pose.

Cruz’s law degree is from Harvard and he did his undergraduate work at Princeton, where the 250-year-old debating club that he belonged to is called the American Whig-Cliosophic Society. Cruz’s wife is on leave from a job with Goldman Sachs.

Keep that in mind when he rails against the establishment and the elites. And remember that when someone is as broadly and profoundly disliked as Cruz is, it’s usually not because he’s a principled truth teller.

It’s because he’s frightening.

He’s a fake conservative who never actually gets anything done.

You are showing signs of an advanced case of hysterical induced Trumpatopia. The paranoid anxiety that any candidate could rise to challenge Trump and the delusions of the Donald walking on water are sure signs of an illusory reality.

Cruz has already fought and won more freedoms for you than you realize. He did it court and now he the first real voice for conservatives that dares challenge the RINO-Reid-McConnell cartel. Even though he is often standing nearly alone he still authors bills amendments and is steadily gaining support and applying pressure on the cartel.

Your spewing hatred that he a bottom feeder or a fake conservative is prima facie that your judgment is impaired and that you are risk for episodes of sociopathic behavioral .

[Ted Cruz is stuck as a bottom feeder.]

CRUZ will rise in the rankings. He is flush with cash, unlike CARSON, who is spending $$$ faster than he can raise it on advisers and opulent living.

You have to understand Frank Bruni perspective.

Ted Cruz does not support butt-lickers like Bruni marrying one another.

All Christian Conservatives are scary to the boi.

“What bill has he passed that has cut the deficit or Obamacare? Nothing.”

Regurgitating the GOPe talking points.

Actually, with the current makeup of the Senate since he’s been there, if he had actually passed any legislation, I would be highly suspect of him. His job at this point is to STOP what Obama is doing. And toward that end, he was instrumental in shutting down the bipartisan gun control legislation they tried to ram through after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting a few years ago. He also led the fight to shut down the government over Obamacare funding, but of course the rest of the GOP caved rather than continue standing against something they secretly wanted anyway.

You can say Cruz doesn’t get that much done because he’s in the Senate, but to call him a “fake conservative” while at the same time talking up Trump as ostensibly a “real” conservative just shows you have some kind of axe to grind against Cruz. I like Trump, but no one from this planet can deny that he’s “evolved” on several issues over the years, including immigration.

“George W. Bush and his groupies aren’t fond of Ted Cruz”

The fact that the Bushes and their supporters don't like him is a positive for Cruz. Bush said one time that he did not like him. There are a small group of leftists, media hacks and corrupt Washington establishment types who continually attack Senator Cruz.

Mark Levin is a poseur who is constantly saying he’ll leave the GOP and yet he never does.

Cruz should have been calling out McConnell on not using reconcilliation or even passing a budget. He only recently has started doing it.

Cruz is in over his head. Trump is smart enough to hire people to tell him what good strategy is. Cruz just thinks running your mouth is a strategy. No wonder he never succeeds at anything except getting elected.

Cruz is also formally aligned with GOPe groups like the Club for Growth which seek to displace Americans with foreigners.

He’ll never get the nomination because no one likes the guy outside of a few people on this site. There is not one poll showing he could beat Hillary. He is a niche candidate who can’t get crossover votes. Only Trump can.

Cruz has “evolved” on TPA as well. He’s also been consistently wrong about H1B. He wants to destroy white collar tech and other jobs to serve the billionaires who fund him.

I’ve seen it happen to myself and others. These companies have no problem firing quality American workers to replace them with H1B workers making just over minimum wage.

Ted Cruz supports that so he can go stuff it.

Do you know the story behind the H1B visa stuff?

It was in the middle of a battle which Ted Cruz and a few senators fought against the 'Gang of 8' amnesty bill. He offered an amendment to counteract pro-illegal immigration provisions of the amnesty bill.

I, and many people, are grateful that Ted Cruz led this fight. Otherwise, they would have approved amnesty already.

Remember this fight in 2013?

Budget: Cruz has made massive financial deals, has put tens of thosuands of people to work, has run a billion dollar business, and protected a bottom line.  Next flight of fantasy...
Civil Liberties: Trump has said he'll round up and deport illegal immigrants, build a wall that is 60 feet tall along our border.  This results in his red marker on civil liberties.  No sale.
Free Market: The "FREE MARKET"...  Nothing in life is free.  The cost of this "FREE MARKET" has been tens of millions of U. S. jobs.  Trump wants to bring them back.  That warrants a red marker.  LOL
Health Care and Entitlements: Trump has proposed a private sector replacement of Obamacare.  He wants to reduce entitlements as part of getting the budget under control.  This red marker is simply proposterous.
Moral issues:  What moral issues?  Good grief.  Name one moral issue Trump has a problem with.
Second Amendment:  This is simply a fraud.  Trump has a paper on Second Amendment rights, and it's recognized as a good one.
Taxes, Economy, and Trade:  Trump's tax position is good.  His economic experience is second to very few U. S. Citizens.  His trade view are more solid than any other candidate's.

In Cruz's favor, his free market mark isn't deserved either.

Trump is the go to guy because of his economic experience.  He is solid on other issues as well, but second to illegal immigration, our national debt and related matters are vitally important and need to be addressed.  Trump is the only candidate with the experience necessary to do that.

Cruz supporters are pleased to drop this bomb on the forum.

It isn't an accurate display on Trump.  As such it's actually a smear on Cruz when his supporters tout it as a reason to support Cruz.  What they should be doing is pointing out the obvious flaws in this ranking.  And RANK is the proper word here....

No one in their right mind pays any attention to there propagandistic push polls.

Apparently you’ve never been called on one.

They start with qualifying questions to see if you will be voting the way they need the poll needs to go.

If you pass the test then they ask the convoluted poll questions.

If not they simply say “Thank you for participating in this important research” and then say good bye.

Polls for the mindless.
