did he use his father’s influence to get into the Air National Guard as a way of avoiding Vietnam?

When the Vietnam War really started to go south nearly everyone who had some connection that could get them out of harms way used it. No one wanted to get their arse shot off in a war our government was clearly not committed to winning.

Though in Bush's case there was no proof, so Dan just made some up.

And this is worse than Bill Clinton running off to England and thumbing his nose at his ROTC commander WHY exactly?

Absolutely true. Many boys thought they were being turned into cannon fodder and cannon fodder alone. Bush did what thousands of kids did - an honorable choice in my opinion. I honor and salute our vets of that war including the National Guard.
