Former Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn slammed what he called "the Cruz effect" — saying Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz's rhetoric and the Texas senator's inability to follow through on his promises have caused great disenchantment among Americans toward Congress.
"I call it 'the Cruz effect,'" Coburn, a Republican who retired last year after 20 years in the Senate, told Sirius XM host Pete Dominick on Thursday. The interview was reported by BuzzFeed News.
"When you tell people you can accomplish something that you can't — for example, shutting down the government over the Affordable Care Act," Coburn said.
"When, in fact, you promise people in your speeches and your talk that we can do this, and — by dinghy — we're gonna get rid of the Affordable Care Act, and all we have to do is shut down the government."
"Well, that's one thing to tell 'em that," Coburn continued. "It's a whole other thing to be able to accomplish that, and build a coalition that once you shut it, that it doesn't get opened up till you win."

Yeah, right! THAT explains why Congress has such a miserable public approval rating, why 60-plus percent of Republicans feel betrayed by the GOP and why Ted Cruz is leading ALL party "leaders" in national polling. Dude, you're obviously WAYYYY smarter than the rest of us!
So trying to get our Congress to function as elected is labeled as a false hope now?
Apparently so, which puts the blame on us for believing them.
Cruz promised to do everything in his power to stop Obama. He has done exactly that.

If Coburn thinks that ignoring the mood of the electorate is the way to act, then I am glad that he is an EX-Senator.
Coburn is the perfect example of a decent man who became thoroughly corrupted by the Washington DC political machine.
In this, Coburn’s farewell interview before he left the Senate last December, he said some things you may never have heard a conservative Republican say about this president of the United States.

CRUZ shines the bright light of freedom in the U.S. Senate. Hopefully others will take his lead and shine too.

The friendship began in 2005 as freshmen senators, Coburn the conservative obstetrician from Muskogee, Oklahoma, and Obama the liberal state senator from Chicago. They often teamed up to pass important pieces of legislation.

What a huge disappointment Coburn turned out to be.
What is the “false hope”? That we can find a way to force Congress to spend within its means? If that is a false hope, then we really are doomed.
Apparently Senator Coburn supports those who make campaign promises to get elected and then do nothing to keep them. This is the same Tom Coburn that was constantly pointing out the ridiculous ways our tax money was being spent despite his part in the removal of Speaker Gingrich so the Republican controlled House could get down to the business of uncontrolled spending.

I think what he is saying is RINO’s run the party so Conservatives should just lay back and enjoy the political raping.
I have two “Republican” Senators who have enabled obama and the democrats at every turn and a Congressman I have serious doubts about. It’s been a very long time since I had a Representative or Senator that did what they said they would do or actually voted Conservative as they have all said they were. We support Senator Cruz.
I’ve met Senator Coburn many times in his commutes to and from Tulsa / Dallas.
He is a serious man with strong fiscal views but Tom is snowblinding by Senate / Political Decorum. His constituent services were first rate.
On many occasions I expressed serious misgivings about Obama’s true allegiances and motivations based on his actions.
Tom’s eyes just glazed over like I was a crazy man. Despite his fiscal conservatism Tom Coburn is an Establishment Republican heavily vested in the status quo.
