That's what was used to pass it (after Scott Brown's election reduced them to 59 votes). So why not use that same procedure to repeal it?
Obamacare is like abortion — they’d rather have the issue than solve the problem.
They signed a consent decree prohibiting them from doing anything about voter fraud.
Subsidies for premiums and substantial outlays for exchange administration can be effectively “repealed” by not funding them.
The big mandate provisions of Obamacare need 60 votes to be repealed but can be heavily modified by executive order and HHS regulation.
They turned us over to the enemy then. They surrendered us.
if GOP wins the White House? (Gonna need more senators)Been there done that, got $hit on.
They might have to wait one more generation to try and pull that one off again.
P.S. Mortgage lending is the same way, but for some reason you never hear any complaints about this the way you do about medical insurance.Nice try. The federal government is not forcing you to get a mortgage.
If the IRS/federal government is mandating that you buy insurance, the state lines are no longer a valid argument for insurance company pricing.
In some cases, yes. But as we've seen with ObamaCare, the "common set of standards" is just as likely to result in higher costs.
Some states are notorious for having more expensive insurance of all kinds. New York is a good example of this. But that isn't necessarily a bad thing. One reason for the high costs in New York is that the state has very strict financial requirements to ensure the stability of insurance carriers. For New York insurance regulators, the single most important thing is to make sure that every insurance claim can be paid without having an insurance carrier go out of business.
There's the problem right there. If you're going to accept this condition at all, then there's no point in even arguing about what the GOP should or should not do in order to "fix" ObamaCare. Once the government mandates something, there's nothing that will ever keep the costs from spiraling out of control.
Obama's Pee Pee Act is laced with the phrase "the Secretary shall". This statement allows the HHS secretary to implement pretty much anything she or he wants. Obama has certainly allowed this often. A new president will have a new secretary. With a new president, the new secretary can pretty much gut Obama's Pee Pee Act as he pleases. That is, as long as the new president has sufficient stones to do it. Several of the Republican candidates do. Let's not get so hung up on one "perfect" candidate to let this opportunity go to waste. It doesn't take 60 Senators. It only takes one President.
They passed it under 50 votes, so it can be repealed with 50 votes.
We are seeing reality in the House as so-called republicans prepare to side with the democrats to elect a speaker.
Reality will appear in the Senate, too. We’ll discover that the chamber of commerce, which owns most senators, was all along trying to get their businesses out from under the requirement to offer health care, and that THEY are the true supporters of government health care...Not to care for the ‘uncovered’ but to get rid of their health care responsibilities whether current or former employees.
Yes, but even that takes time. The removal of the most odious features of Obamacare created under the “as the Secretary shall direct” features — including those the apostate Sibelius put in mostly to poke a sharp stick in the eye of the Latin church, the contraceptive mandate and abortion-coverage mandate — can happen almost instantly under a GOP administration, and could be done under a GOP administration even if the ‘Rats retain effective control of the Senate.
“In my mind, it’s impossible to get a 60-vote coalition” to kill Obamacare, said health insurance expert Robert Laszewski, who operates Health Policy and Strategy Associates in Virginia.”
Hey Bobby- it was passed through a budget reconciliation process with only 51 votes required. Part of Harry Reid’s parliamentary sleight of hand.
But it’ll come back to bite him in his ass and be repealed with only 51 votes needed.
You were right the second time. If we get a GOP-E President, we'll need 60 Senate votes and a similar margin in the House to override his veto of any repealer.
The GOP establishment (that is, the Chamber and the Business Roundtable) has wanted Obamacare as much as, or more than, the 'Rats did. They wanted to give Fortune 500 companies a way to dump their employee healthcare. That's what it was all about.
And they did their backroom handshake deal with the Democrats before the 2008 election. Think about that one for a while.
I don't doubt your assertion at all. After all, this is the same Government that assumed take-over of United Airlines Failing Pension Obligations and put those on the backs of the American Taxpayers..........
Also bailed out GM and Chrysler, usurping Shareholder rights and obliterating the rights of debt holders that were first in line to be paid, in favor of the Unions.
We no longer live in a a representative republic. We live in a fascist state.
For the record, dictionary.com defines fascism as follows:
Fascism(sometimes initial capital letter) a governmental system led by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce, etc., and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and often racism.
