Ted Cruz Easily Wins 603 Alliance Caucus
WMUR-TV, New Hampshire ^ | October 17, 2016 | John DiStaso

I have just returned from this event, which was great fun!

Just a quick note, though, that the author of this article is almost certainly incorrect in saying that Carly came in second, and Carson came in third. There were many, many Carson supporters there, but only a handful of Carly supporters. I know this because we Cruz supporters were forced to use their (Carly's) space for our overflow of Cruz attendees!

CRUZ CAUCUS WINNER. As expected, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was the overwhelming favorite of about 700 conservative activists who gathered at the Hopkinton Fair Grounds on Saturday to participate in the 603 Alliance presidential caucus.

The conservative Granite Grok website reported that Cruz won the caucus. The alliance tweeted that Carly Fiorina finished second and Dr. Ben Carson third.

According to the Cruz campaign, the Texas Republican received 72.3 percent of the overall vote in the Iowa-style caucus.

According to alliance co-founder and adviser Jack Kimball, a former state Republican Party chairman, the alliance will now urge conservatives across the state to back a single candidate as the choice of conservatives. The alliance's choice, given Saturday's vote, is now Cruz.

See our item below for more details on the caucus.

The Cruz campaign described the 603 Alliance as New Hampshire's largest gathering of conservative activists, “comprised of a broad coalition of Tea Party, Liberty, faith-based, and Republican women groups from throughout the state.”

The campaign’s description reflects the alliance’s own description of itself.

According to the Cruz campaign: “The 603 Alliance grew out of conservatives’ concern that various factions were splitting the conservative vote and allowing establishment moderates to win in New Hampshire. Determined to give the conservative coalition a stronger voice, the 603 Alliance decided to coalesce behind and endorse one conservative candidate.”

“Today’s lopsided vote clearly shows that New Hampshire conservatives overwhelmingly support Ted Cruz,” the campaign said.

"I am inspired by the number of New Hampshire conservatives who believe that our campaign can win," Cruz said in a statement. "Working together, we can win the Granite State, beat the establishment, and take on the Washington Cartel."

The Cruz campaign added: “By winning the 603 Alliance Straw Poll, Ted Cruz has earned the support of a broad spectrum of conservatives who agree that he is the best candidate to beat the Democrat nominee in November 2016.”

I agree Ted is a conservative, I do not agree he can win the general election. He will get beaten like a rented mule.

Ted Cruz, the more you look at him, the better he looks. But He was conservative even when you weren’t looking!

You are fooling yourself if you think he has a chance to win. He would not be able to take votes away from the RATs like Trump can. We have to win this time. I will take 60% of what I want opposed to getting nothing because we lost.

Ted is a freshman Senator who does not have the media behind him like Obozo did. He has no exec experience, just legal experience.

Time to face reality. Many do not like him because of his demeanor. That demeanor doesn’t really bother me, but it does a whole lot of people.

Ah, sheesh. Would you just shut up?

I am so tired of FReepers dismissing our best, most conservative, most electable candidate.

Is it because his last name is hispanic that you hate him so, dforest?

“That demeanor doesn’t really bother me”

But is kinda does? Too principled for you? Too Constitutional? Too pro-American, pro-free enterprise for you? Too latino for you?

Agreed. Before about a year or 16 months ago I didn’t really pay any attention to him. When he caught my eye I started digging and was even more impressed.

The “He’s unelectable” meme seems to be the talking point of the day. I’m seeing it everywhere today. The problem is that the moderates make that same claim in every election and then their “electable” candidate collapses in the general election.

Defeatism is not one of my values. I pick my candidates based on their principles, positions, character and history, not on what other people think or polls say.

We have heard it all before, sacrifice your values to appeal to the valueless moderates: Dole, McCain, Romney blah blah blah. We lost when won the house and the senate and I for one do not choose to lose again by going with less than principled constitutional conservative for president.

Too weak on amnesty, too much money from the Club for growth and too obliged to the donor class.

That's what the Romney people said. A lot of good people stayed home or skipped the pres line or voted third party. That won't happen in a Cruz-Clinton contest.

You mean, too conservative for you. Who is better? The candidates who were just Democrats, who just recently decided it was more prudent for them to become Republicans?

Nobody is perfect. But Cruz is as close as we can get this election cycle.

Um. By people voting for him? By people not voting for Hillary or whoever the Democrat is?

Do we need to revisit how elections are conducted? Sheesh.

You sound like those who arrogantly dismissed Reagan for being too principled and too conservative to win the general election. He won, by the way. Dramatically.

Cruz is a brilliant strategist. He will win the general election if we get him on the ticket. And if conservatives don’t dismiss him as unelectable.

Says a high school sophomore such as yourself. Your words carry no weigh. You say he can’t win. People said the same about Reagan.

Enough said.
