Obama Administration Ends Pentagon Program to Train Syrian Rebels
The New York Times ^ | 10/09/2015 | HELENE COOPER and ERIC SCHMITT

The Obama administration has ended the Pentagon’s $500 million program to train and equip Syrian rebels, administration officials said on Friday, in an acknowledgment that the beleaguered program had failed to produce any kind of ground combat forces capable of taking on the Islamic State in Syria.

[...] [The Defense Secretary] Mr. Carter added, “I think you’ll be hearing from President Obama very shortly” on the program."

[...] A senior Defense Department official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that a much smaller training center would be set up in Turkey instead, where a small group of “enablers” — mostly leaders of opposition groups — would be taught operational maneuvers like how to call in airstrikes.

[...]

The change makes official what those in the Pentagon have been saying for several weeks would most likely happen, in the wake of revelations that the program at one point last month had only “four or five” trainees in the fight in Syria — a far cry from the plan formally started in December to prepare as many as 5,400 fighters this year, and 15,000 over the next three years.

[...]

Some of the American-trained Syrian fighters gave at least a quarter of their United States-provided equipment to the Qaeda affiliate in Syria, the Nusra Front (sic!), the United States Central Command acknowledged in late September.

Because it goes to pay Defense Contractors to supply high tech toys to the “Syrian Rebel”

This is the dirty little secret the DC Political/Media/Business regime doesn't tell you. 95% of these sort of “foreign aid” or “training” programs go to domestic agencies and groups to “facilitate” the program. It just another way to line up a slot at the tax payer trough for one of DC’s machine's piglets to feast on.

Folks, your new dictionaries will be in the mail shortly. Highlights of the new version include a revised entry for the phrase "utter, abject failure."

We'll get those out to you just as soon as we can get a photograph of any actual obama-tranied Syrian rebel. Though most seem to have been killed, defected, or simply run away, we hope to find one to photograph soon...

I wonder if this has to do with the Clinton emails that Congress is about to release that show this stunt in Libya and Syria is all about a Clinton crony wanting a fat business deal in Libya and Gaddaffi not willing to play ball with them?

Wonder what the Clinton machine were planning on getting out of Syria?

I think the reason they cancelled the program is both trainees were killed in the first Russian air strike.

"about a Clinton crony wanting a fat business deal"

I'm not trying to single you out, because many, many have pavlovian responses.

When the Benghazi committee starts down a new path, everyone starts drooling at the mouth like Pavlov's dog.

But nothing ever comes of anything the Benghazi committee does.

As for Syria, congress has had a lot more to do with Syria than Obama or Hillary. In this particular case , training the Syrians came about because of legislation congress passed in Aug 2014

Perfect Clinton response. Oh yeah we are caught with our hand in the cookie jar again but don’t look at us, it these people over here’s fault.

Sorry not buying the distract and delay spin tactics of the Democrat machine any more.

Executive Anus and the media will tout this program as a huge success. They will say that it worked so good that Putin had to rescue Assad.

I’d like to see an accounting of every dollar spent on this “program”.

That(Sept, 2014) was after Congress passed the legislation(Aug, 2014)

If you go back to 2013, it was Congress that authorized arming the Syrian rebels, and Obama was opposed.

Senate panel delivers bipartisan rebuke to Obama with vote to arm Syrian rebels

1st thing Obama has ever done I agree with.

I wonder if he's telling them to get rid of the U.S. weapons, starting with those funneled to them via Benghazi. they've been provided with before Russia captures them and shows the world - along with the proof that they are jihadists...

(Do you really believe they are the good guys ? Hint: They are O'bummers 'brothers')-
