In a world full of surprises--the rise of Islamic fundamentalism, the weakness in the Chinese economy, the battles within the European Union, the making of the Iran deal, the slide in the American stock market--the greatest surprise of all has been the sudden rebirth of Russian power under Vladimir Putin.

Russia was never stopped being a “world power”.
And this KGB a-hole being aggressive is a surprise to no one other than the author of this I guess.
That a**hole has some friends on FR, weirdly. The one thing Romney got right was to warn about Russia.
Just like Obama promised in his second term.
Yeah, I know.
The Putin fan club gets a little homo-erotic if you ask me.
When was it that someone had more Nuclear Weapons than Russia?
1949 maybe?
I've been tryin to figure that out myself.. I think it's a emotional reaction to Puti-poot's frequent engagement with the Muzzie activists in Russia, as well as a situation where one's disgust with Obama tends to override common sense positions.
Oy! And when they start posting photos of him without his shirt - that awful, thick, short-waisted Russian male body. Yuck-o!
Russian GDP is the same as Italy. They are projecting military power in the Middle East because they need to sell product. A nuclear power? Yes. An economic power? Laughable. Of course Putin’s balls make Obamas look like bb’s but that’s another story.
Are they friends of Putin or really just jealous that Russians have a leader who loves his country while we’re stuck with Satan’s chancroid trying to destroy ours.
You haven’t seen the Man’s Country homo-erotic photos run by some freepers?
Who knows if Putin loves his country; Russian leaders are not famous for protecting ordinary citizens - as the oligarchs who’ve impoverished that country have proven.
“Of course Putins balls make Obamas look like bbs but thats another story.”
Actually, that IS the story. It’s why Russia, as anemic as it is economically, has revived its once dominate position in the Mideast. Pretty smart calculus on the part of Putin to figure out ISIS was apparently a paper tiger and a few days of strategic bombing could be enough to save Assad and prevent an ISIS Caliphate from taking over Syria and Iraq. That and apparently Putin is now sending Spetsnaz ground troops into Syria as well.
True on Russian leaders, but still, we deserve a patriotic leader.
Let’s see... Russia got rid of Communism and began embracing capitalism,, brought back God, hates faggotry and won’t bow to them, started running ISIS out of their country instead of supporting, training or financing them and now they are a super power. America are you listening?
That is exactly how this topic should be framed.
There are some people who are after a strong leader and are impatient with politics in a republic. They have always been around and Obama’s weakness and anti American ideology have pushed then too far. Me, a dictator doesn’t attract me. Putin is an evil puke.
If we do not turn back to the God of our founding, what will be the instrument of our judgment? A quick look around the world shows that we've written far more checks than we will ever be able to cash. God help us if many of them come due at once.
Well, think about the juxtaposition. Here we see America constantly cowering and surrendering like a country of brainless rodents to every dingbat, fevered PC campaign cooked up by the media, from the eradication of Confederate flags to the embrace of homo-marriage. Nothing is too insane, too sick, too depraved for this nation anymore. We are suicidally demented.
Russia and Putin at least seem to be acting out in the age-old, historical paradigms of national/personal interests, and eschewing all the idiocy that breeds and flourishes here. It makes basic SENSE what they are doing. It’s almost refreshing to witness, compared to the sheer grotesque insanity of Obama’s America, circa 2015. America is no longer a place to cheer. Russia going after ISIS at least vicariously serves as a quirky substitute for something our own nation no longer appears capable of providing. Few are genuinely enamoured with Putin in the real sense.
