(CNN)The Army issued a service-wide breastfeeding policy this week, making it the last military branch to implement guidelines for supporting nursing service members.
The two-page policy, which applies to active, Guard and Reserve members, takes effect immediately. The policy says command must provide designated spaces for soldiers to pump breast milk, whether they're on base or doing field and mobility exercises. It leaves it up to soldiers and commanders to work out a schedule that balances the mother's needs and mission readiness.
Army spokesman Lt. Col. Jerome Pionk said the policy is not prescriptive by design to allow for flexibility.
"This directive was specifically designed so soldiers and command can work together to come up with a situation that will balance the needs of the mother with the needs of the mission," he told CNN.

What is Russia’s army breastfeeding policy...
Or more importantly, what is ISIL's?
lol. I am sorry but I was laughing reading this article. I can’t believe it. I mean we had a few Moms in the Navy, but they just went to a room. We didn’t need anything official. The Army can’t even figure it out without writing something?
We all know that the great armies of the world succeeded because their breastfeeding policies were very accommodating. /s
So if a warrior mom needs to breast feed baby during a firefight exchange whilst everyone is pinned down, say by ISIS savages for example, is the policy to request the enemy to cease fire temporarily until mom finishes suckling baby?
Well, from the way this reads, the Army was the last one; which means that the Navy was craven enough to do it some time ago ... [and, yes, I know what "craven" means, and I specifically meant to use it].
Great shot of MOMS putting their babies between themselves and the enemy.
My wife breast feed while she was in the Corps. She would go in a room or even the bathroom to pump her breast milk. She had a battery powered pump.
That’s it, I quit. I like breasts and I like milk but when the US ARMY has to make a policy concerning them, we should take a step back and say “ what the Sam Hill is going on here?” SHEESH
Active Duty ping.
Hey Joe, why no breast showing?
New SEE-Rations .....
Although you're being facetious - no, pregnant women automatically get orders to the rear or stateside while the men soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines pick up the slack. It's been that way since women were first deployed to support ships. I know, I was there and witnessed it back in the 80's.
This is why we withdraw from the world stage and watch Russia shooting in Syria. I’ll bet Baraq is very jealous that he can’t breastfeed...
Let’s see the Chinese PLA’s breastfeeding policy... Oh wait, they have none. The Russians??? None there either, and they have had women in their units since 1941.
So, will Delta Force stop a raid on a high value target because a member needs to pump?
How would Chuck Norris or Lee Marvin have dealt with this?
How about if you breastfeed your number 1 job is no longer the army and you are discharged.
