I believe that most of the evil they inflict is intentional. It’s not like conservatives don’t tell them the potential consequences. The common factor in these shootings is not the guns. Guns are a tool. Guns are inert. The common factor is the lack of parental involvement in the life of these hoodlums. If “they” can’t track 11-40 million people (who, if you disassemble or bury them, don’t start functioning well if reassembled or unburied, unlike guns), then how can they track 400 million guns? Oh, yes, since 1968 we’ve had the Form 4473, but that only tracks purchases from licensed gun dealers - how many out there have bought guns in private transactions, or have inherited (or been gifted) guns from family members with NO tracking whatsoever? Also, how many people do you know that are in roughly the same condition at age 75 or 100 as when they were born? Not too many - but guns can survive for a LONG time and be in perfect operating condition. They don’t generally go to the hospital, where they can be tracked, unlike people who have those occasional emergencies. IOW, guns cannot be tracked anywhere nearly as easily as living human beings.
Keep in mind that there is a very high correlation between those who favor “gun control” (really, “gun confiscation”) and those who favor no or few limits on immigrants. The next time someone tells you that the government should “just take all the guns” or something equally tyrannical and stupid, make mention of the facts here, and ask them how it is possible to do so. In fact, if you really want to get under their skin, let them know that since it is easier to track people than guns, you’ll be willing to give up your guns...just as soon as the government tracks down and eliminates every single illegal in this country (the equivalent of the gun “buy backs”). Yes, return illegals to their place of origin - ALL of them - and then we can discuss gun control. Make sure to wear rain gear, their heads will explode and that will be quite messy.
