I know squat about Bernie Sanders except that he is socialist. Now I see he is a Jew. Has any Jew come into the mainstream candidates for President before? Not that I believe he is a practicing Jew or even respects Judaism.

Sen. Barry Goldwater, the 1964 Presidential nominee of the Republican Party was 1/2 Jewish by birth, on his father's side. His mother was Episcopalian and he was raised as an Episcopalian, but did also identify himself as Jewish (per Wikipedia bio).

Al Gore's running mate for VP was Joseph Lieberman, who is a practicing Orthodox Jew.

Those are the only two I am aware of, but there may be others.
