Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) slammed his Republican colleagues over backing a short-term spending bill, calling Congress a "withering shadow" of what it once was.
"Congress is a withering shadow," the Kentucky Republican said. "It's a shadow of what it once was. Congress has no power, exerts no power, and we walk and we live in the shadow of a presidency that is growing larger and larger and larger."
ADVERTISEMENT Paul's remarks come as the Senate is expected to pass a short-term spending bill that includes money for Planned Parenthood ahead of an end-of-the-month deadline to fund the government and avoid a shutdown.
The Kentucky Republican, who is running for president, was one of 19 Republicans who voted against moving forward with the short-term continuing resolution (CR) during a procedural vote on Monday.
He added on Tuesday that the legislation is a "steaming pile of the same old same old. ... A warmed over version of yesterday's failures."

Hey, Randy, you endorsed the king of that steaming pile, Yertle
Welcome to FR
So, you’ll stand up and back Cruz when it doesn’t matter?
Wait, what?
According to Rand we are to revere the institution and protect it from insult...
Congress as a shadow is more poetic than calling it a failure, so that’s ok, right?
On a side note, I’d love to see Trump opine on how glad he was to see Rand stand up on the side of their mutual friend, Sen. Cruz.
Actually, he sounds sincere. Maybe he’s heard the people. I hope so, we need as many on our side as we can get.
He is 100% right so I applaud him for speaking up here.
A little to late for talking like that...
Maybe you shouldn’t have snuggled with McTurtle and you would have had your base, but your gone now...bye bye....
LOL!!
Sorry, my friend, he’s done. I once favor5ed him. But, he teamed up with McConnell-— and thus, he signed his own presidential death warrant.
Here are the Republican senators who voted yes on cloture which ended debate & amendments on the continuing resolution to fund Obamas government. Sept. 28, 2015. This is the vote McConnell used to get the CR up for the final vote.
Watch all the ones up for election in 2016 to vote against the final step as they know enough Democrats will cancel their “no”.
31 REPUBLICANS VOTE TO ADVANCE DIRTY CR
Please call these Senate Republicans and tell them youre disappointed that they voted with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to advance the continuing resolution (CR) that funds Planned Parenthood, the Iran nuclear deal, executive amnesty, and Obamacare. Remind that that they dont work for Mitch McConnell; they work for you!

At least we know who NOT to re-elect next time....
Continues to disappoint. Another phony who pretended to be one of us, but now will go along to get along and increase her power and future lobbying corruption.
Didn’t she do a Harley ride with Scott Walker? See where it got him.
Not only did Paul not support Senator Cruz but John Cornyn, the other Texas Senator and huge RINO, did not support Cruz either - but that is nothing new.
Most of these RINOs are up for election this cycle. Time for them to go.
Won’t make any difference for you Rand. You’re still toast.
