well, Audi is part of the VW stable of brands, so I’d guess the same “problem”

The software detects when the car is being tested (because most tests occur under specific conditions that don't normally occur in real-life) and cuts the engine etc. to reduce hydrocarbon emissions.
In non-test scenarios it's emissions are much, much higher

The problem is with NOx, not the hydrocarbons................

This is all payback for Republicans backing non-union workers at the Tenn VW plant.

I dont give a rats hindquarters what my diesel emits. The emissions standards are moronic. They are concocted by stupid liberals, affirmative action babies, gay and feminazi bureaucrats who have never been in manufacturing There is nothing wrong with the way these diesel engines are made or tuned.
I agree though I don't own a diesel. Since they all were "cheating" this shows me that they tried their best but cannot meet ridiculous American and European emission standards without ruining fuel efficiency.

I fear that some states might make a trip to the dealer for software patch a requirement/condition for any sale. It works great without the fix. It was just something to appease the regulators in their moment of testing.
