Over half of the public “would not advocate” putting a Muslim in the White House
Controversial remarks by Ben Carson about Muslims in American politics have triggered criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike, but the sentiment itself appears to be shared by many Americans.
Last Sunday the retired neurosurgeon told CNN that he “would not advocate putting a Muslim in charge of this nation.” Politicians from Hillary Clinton to Mitt Romney and Ted Cruz denounced the comments, calling the sentiment unfair and unconstitutional, while Carson himself later said he could actually support a Muslim candidate for president so long as they swore to be loyal to the Consititution.
The American public, however, remains resistant to the idea of a Muslim president. 57% in total agree with what Carson said about backing a Muslim candidate. The perspective is shared by the vast majority (83%) of Republicans as well as four in ten Democrats.
By 52% to 30%, Americans also say Carson should not apologize for saying he wouldn’t support a Muslim president.

Despite the fact we already have one and see the damage he has done- it inspires hope that more people aren’t afraid to speak up. I think the actual percentage is much higher.
Obviously most Americans are smarter than they are often given credit for.

so 54 percent of muslims either wouldn’t vote for a Christian or aren’t sure. That’s kinda high.
I guess that assumes there’s a muslim in a race, which thankfully is still very rare.
I personally think that what’s more important is that Trump KNOWS this country is done without Christianity, regardless of how strong his faith is.
It may be very strong. May not. But he KNOWS what’s made this country great. And that’s Christians.
Article VI Clause 3 of the Constitution is a fine thing, but I will NEVER vote for a muslim for any office, period.

Which explains ABC’s George Stephanopoulos’ quick ‘correction’ in an 0bama interview, to put on the record he’s proud of his Christian faith, instead of what 0bama really said that he was proud of his muslim faith.
Boy-George sure knows his politics. Too bad the electorate didn’t take it as seriously as it was.
A practicing Muslim, applying his judgment strictly in compliance with the Koran, could not support the US Constitution, a set of distinctly revolutionary ideas totally not compatible with Shari’ah law, an uncertain and sometimes highly inconsistent “code”, which proposes to divide all humanity into one of three classifications.
1. The Noble Islamic Gentleman, definitely an elite creature most favored by Allah. All serious practicioners of the faith aspire to this exalted position in the hierarchy.
2. To assure gaining and holding onto this exalted position, it is necessary to convert as many of the non-Muslims to a like state of mind as may be within the means of the Noble Islamic Gentleman. But not all minds are similarly fascinated with agreeing to this arrangement, as they may have a contrasting belief system. Fine, then simply acknowledge the inherent superiority of the Islamic faith and the Noble Islamic Gentleman, and submit to slavery and lifetime bondage.
3. Of course, some object to the whole idea of becoming a Muslim, or subjugating an existing faith system to the Almighty Allah, as defined in the Koran. These independent thinkers are fit for no more than to be slaughtered as their very presence is an affront to Allah, and it is incumbent on every true believing Noble Islamic Gentleman to rid the world of this apostasy.
There are SO many ways this violates the postulates set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations.

I respectfully disagree with Sen. Cruz about Clause 3 of Article VI and a Muslim in the Oval Office. Noting that Clause 3 can be used to argue having a radical Muslim in the Oval Office, the Founding States had made the Constitution amendable for repealing things like Clause 3 that evidently didn’t pass the test of time.
So when the states get off of their couches and amend the Constitution to repeal the ill-conceived 17th Amendment, they can also repeal the religious test prohibition for federal offices imo.
I think it’s really funny in a way, how the liberals and media went into mock outrage/meltdown mode over this. But then contributions to Carson actually spiked a bit after his comments. And then polling shows that the vast majority of people agree with him that a devout Muslim should not be president.
Yes we all know about the constitution and no religious test for public office. The issue is, should someone who would subvert our constitution by his allegiance to Sharia law ever be the president. But these nuances are lost on the liberals who decide what issues they will have hissy fits and meltdowns about.

I hope it’s just PC and fear of giving the politically incorrect answer to the polling question. In that case, huge majorities would agree that a Muslim should not be president.
Reminds me a bit of all of the marriage amendments passed by states. Back in the days when states were still allowed to define marriage, traditional marriage was usually approved by the voters by much larger margins than the pre-election polls on that subject would have indicated.
Face it, we all know what the politically correct answer is to certain questions put before us. And we know how those perceived as politically incorrect are condemned as evil, bigoted, hateful, etc.
Ted Cruz did not denounce what Carson said. He denounced what a dishonest reporter said that Carson said. Cruz was punked by the reporter.
