Boehner's Confusion
The American Spectator ^ | Sept. 25, 2015 | Larry Thornberry

Posted on 09/25/2015 11:54:10 AM PDT by TangibleDisgust

John Boehner announced earlier today that he’s leaving the post of Speaker of the House. During his remarks he made this stunner of a statement that shows, for those who didn’t believe it already, that it’s way past time for him to turn the gavel over. Be seated for this:

“The first job of any Speaker,” John said, “is to protect this institution that we all love.”

No, John, it is not! It. Is. Not. The first obligation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is to the country, it’s security, it’s prosperity, and its cultural and spiritual health. The U.S. House of Representatives exists to ensure these things for the country. The country doesn’t exist for the care and convenience of the House and those who wish to carve out a comfortable career in it.

And while we’re at it, who is the “we all” that is so in love with the House of Representatives? If you’ve looked at a poll over the last decade or so, John, you would know that the House of Representatives is only slightly less popular than tooth decay. Perhaps this is because you’re not the only member of the House who doesn’t understand what it’s there for. And not the only member who should be headed back to River City, there to seek legitimate work (if, thanks to our inept and elephantine government, there is any to be found).

Best wishes in your retirement.

The only thing Bhoner should find when he gets home is an Amish style shunning. ...in all 57 states. Drive the prick out of the country and to Kenya where the man he so loved hails from.

Yeah, to protect the House from Ted Cruz. Just what James Madison envisioned.

This is the greatest victory for real conservatives that we have had since Ronald Reagan’s election day!!The victory is Boehner folding under the relentless pressure of Americans furious with no standing up against the pathetic dictator obama. As Trump was just quote “It was time”!! Yes sir .It was time. Boehner will do great damage in the next 30 days. We must fight that with our pens and our phones !! DO NOT FUND THE KILLING OF HUMAN BABIES AND THE SELLING OF THEIR LITTLE ORGANS OR WE BECOME NO BETTER AS A NATION THE HITLER’S NAZI GERMANY.

January 15, 2015

Dear Mr. XXXXXXX:

Thank you for contacting me about House Speaker John Boehner. I appreciate hearing from you.

I’d like to share with you the views of one of the leaders of the conservative movement who led the opposition against Speaker Boehner in 2013, but voted for him in 2015. Offering an explanation of why he changed his vote, my colleague Representative Mick Mulvaney from South Carolina said,

This coup today was bound to fail. And in fact, it failed worse than I expected, falling 11 votes shorts of deposing the Speaker. At least two years ago we only failed by six.... The hard truth is that we had an election for Speaker in November – just among Republicans. That was the time to fight. But not a single person ran against [Speaker] Boehner. Not one. If they had, we could’ve had a secret ballot to find out what the true level of opposition to John Boehner was.
(Representative Mulvaney’s full comments are attached for your review)

Despite last minute notice in the hours leading up to a vote, the truth is no potential candidate spent the time to make their case as a meaningful alternative. The choice touted by most conservatives outside of Congress was Representative Trey Gowdy, but he chose not to run. In fact, Representative Gowdy gave the nomination speech for Speaker Boehner in the Republican Conference meeting in November.

In addition to Mr. Gowdy, some of the “most tried and tested conservative voices in Washington” joined me in re-electing Speaker Boehner, including Representatives Jim Jordan, Raul Labrador, Mark Sanford, Trent Franks, Tom McClintock, Matt Salmon, Tom Price, Sam Johnson, and Jeb Hensarling. I remain committed to advancing a conservative agenda that controls government spending, preserves Constitutional liberties, jump-starts our economy, and holds President Obama accountable for his actions.

People are rightfully frustrated with Congress, but this New Year brings a new opportunity to produce results for the American people. My hope is we can unite as a party, get to work, and deliver results. Please don’t hesitate to contact me in the coming year.

Sincerely,

Luke Messer
Member of Congress

I found out later this letter was boilerplate provided by Boehner’s office elves to critters fending off angry constituents, or at least to those Boehner awarded committee chairmanships.

Time finally for a conservative representative to grow a pair, step up and take the reigns. If they push a Boehner `Mini-me’ on us, the GOP-e is DOA/RIP. Enough with the Republican steers!

It’s not a victory yet. Someone equal or worse could replace him.

“.....The first obligation of the Speaker of the House of Representatives is to the country, it’s security, it’s prosperity, and its cultural and spiritual health....”

_________________________________________________________

One correction: The Constitution should be number 1 ahead of the Country. Without the Constitution, we really don’t have the country.

Still, the article is spot on. I am sooooo sick and tired of those in Congress (House and Senate) more in love with and respect for the institutions.....ahead of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. I would love to have Jefferson, Adams, Madison, Hamilton, et al. lecture these modern day imbeciles of what really is important to them.

As a postscript, “Rep. Mulvaney’s full comments” were *not* attached, and I also requested the results of surveys of District 6 that my rep had sent out, which I replied to, and his office agreed to send but never sent to me or anyone else as far as I know.

And Messer is one of the good guys! That’s pretty much the mess (heh) we have now, after “winning Congress”.
