Why is he calling the Pope - His Holiness. That’s pandering, IMO. I don’t see him as Holy - not with is viewpoints.
every time the reporters addressed a question to ‘his holiness,’
he used the term in the context....of a joke....
Umm, that’s his title. It’s also the setup for the punchline, the joke doesn’t work without it.
He didn’t. Ted Cruz quoted the *reporters* as using the phrase “his holiness.”
Why so prone to see Cruz as “pandering”? Is Trump your guy? Or Jeb?
No one is holy but God. The title is as blasphemous as the office.
Next time you’re at the store, pick up a sense of humor. You could use one.
Because he's a grown-up.
It was a joke - a tongue-in-cheek reference to Obama’s ego. Ted Cruz is an evangelical Christian and he knows that Il Papa is just another man.
He isn’t. He is making a joke about Obama.
Really?
You're criticizing Cruz because he called the Pope "His Holiness"?
And weren't you the one calling people "political morons" when people criticized Trump for saying "I love the Muslims".
Unbelievable.
Because it was a joke. Cruz is a Southern Baptist.
What I heard was Cruz saying was when REPORTERS started a question by saying "Your Holiness..." that Obama would answer. I didn't hear Cruz refer to the Pope in that way.
That being said, it wouldn't bother me to find out he did refer to him in that way. That is the accepted form of address, and I doubt that Cruz wants to offend or alienate any conservative Catholics. And I don't consider that pandering, just showing respect for the position.
Cruz isn’t calling pope that. Check the placement of the quotation marks. Grammar is your friend.
