The Associated Press announced on its blog today that henceforth it will refer to climate change skeptics less pejoratively, reports Mediaite.
The AP explained the changes thusly:
Our guidance is to use climate change doubters or those who reject mainstream climate science and to avoid the use of skeptics or deniers. [emphasis in original]
Some background on the change: Scientists who consider themselves real skeptics who debunk mysticism, ESP and other pseudoscience, such as those who are part of the Center for Skeptical Inquiry complain that non-scientists who reject mainstream climate science have usurped the phrase skeptic. They say they arent skeptics because proper skepticism promotes scientific inquiry, critical investigation and the use of reason in examining controversial and extraordinary claims. That group prefers the phrase climate change deniers for those who reject accepted global warming data and theory. But those who reject climate science say the phrase denier has the pejorative ring of Holocaust denier so The Associated Press prefers climate change doubter or someone who rejects mainstream science.
Speaking of pejorative ring, note the phrasing here: the AP is asserting that climate change doubters aren't "real skeptics," because "real skeptics" use reason, scientific inquiry, and critical investigation - the false implication is that doubters do not. The AP dismisses climate change doubters as those who "reject mainstream science" and "accepted global warming data and theory," falsely implying that the science is settled and anyone who disagrees is a head-in-the-sand denier.
But hey, at least the AP will condescend to stop openly comparing them to Holocaust deniers. Thanks for small favors.
no INFIDELS????
“those who reject mainstream climate science”
mainstream only to those who mainline commie jibber jabber
Heretics? Blasphemers? Apostates?
I truly doubt that any AP “journalist” would be capable of passing a real first year physics class. The “denying” comes from these idiots denying the fact that - compared to real science types - they are complete idiots.
Which, of course, is why they went into journalism.
why don’t they just use the term “scientists” to describe those who do not believe in global warming?
The goal has been and still is, to pretend that global warming is significant enough that it presents a serious threat, and that it is settled science
Neither are true.
Hegel, pure and simple...
Declare an emergency, and place yourself in charge of protecting the people (planet).
This is pure leverage politics.
I’ve already started calling myself an undocumented climate change skeptic.
Belief in globull warming is a religion.
AP = Abetting Propagandist.
COOL! We’re not politically correct!
And we’ve been noticed...Kind of sucks though, I kinda liked being called a skeptic and a denier...
Ok, AP, can we now have the Style Guide call them what they really are? Truth-tellers. Realists. Practical, no-nonsense, scientifically literate, honest, empirical, not sucking the government teat, etc.
We’ll win this one... in 20 years ‘global warming’ will have gone the way of ‘peak oil’, nuclear winter, the population bomb, Club of Rome, global cooling, etc. etc. etc...
The first time I saw them referred to as “deniers” I figured it was a great use of the language, as “denier” is always associated with the Holocaust. Glad to see them stop that usage.
How big of them. The AP can just stuff it and keep their mock charity. They and their language police and presumption that they get to define how we talk about things needs to be rebuked and incinerated in the fire of a rage well earned. These pathetic mfrs are over. They just don’t know it yet.
You stop calling us 'deniers' and we'll stop calling you 'Activist Prostitutes' or worse...
RATagandists.
AP wants white house press credentials after 1/20/17 when press secretary Laura Ingraham takes control during a Trump administration.
