At the end of the day, I felt he was not trustworthy and that his loyalties were divided. The meme that catapulted him to top rung, “protect the American worker,” was just not followed up with by actions or consistency in subsequent statements.

love the characterization of him during debate: "Mostly, he was a potted plant."

Actually in the opening round of the last debate Walker landed a combination of rhetorical punches on Trump that actually shut him up for a minute...until Jebito wound him up again.

After that exhange the moderators (and Trump) avoided Walker....

Walker may be a good man, but this go round he was not his own man. It was painfully obvious the GOPe/CoC donors were pulling his string. On his own he’d sounded ok-good, but then the GOPe would force him to walk back his comments, and it looked like he was flip flopping. Time and time again he got his strings pulled. It was pitiful to watch. Get better donors next time Mr Walker.

He had the excitement of wet cardboard. Boring speeches, wooden persona.

Perfect for the sentimentality over substance conservative, a sure loser when the National level left takes aim at him.

Scott Walker would be a good appointee to the NLRB or head the department of labor, not president.
Like Carson, good as head of HHS or the VA but not President.

I take umbrage with the remark that Trump is a flaming Democrat. He was registered as a D for only 8 years. He and his dad were both Reagan supporters and Trump even flew Ronald to Albany on his private jet so that he could file his paperwork on time for the election. Even though he was registered as a D from 2001-2009- he voted for McCain.

>>Good governor.

Voters are not looking for good government.

Another factor....when Walker was winning the “right wing media” primary - ie - when Drudge, Rush and Breitbart were full of pro Walker stories and so on, he was way ahead in the polls. Now he’s almost invisible on those three forums, and Trump dominates all three.

This is not to say there’s not some legit reasons for this...there are....but those three are big time “multipliers”

when the National level left takes aim at him.

They already did that and he won. Maybe that won't scale well, but he certainly convinced Wisconsin to support him.

Walker wasn’t good, either. Pro-open borders/amnesty/citizenship for illegals until he got blowback in his campaign, but always funded by big open-borders business interests. A Reince Priebus/GOPe candidate all the way.

I put him about 4th on my list.

The hiring of Dayspring and a handful of other loser Beltway consultants got him off track. I am convinced of that. Walker has the play book on beating the left, and its not just union busting as this myopic author says.

I agree, insofar as he was the best of the Establishment candidates, so good to have in reserve if it came down to that.

It’s the TPaw, mild-mannered Midwesterner syndrome.

Because if Walker peeled off enough of the more conservative vote from more independent candidates (Trump and Cruz), the GOPe would have won with owning both surviving candidates down the stretch.

Walker destroyed his own campaign when he hired GOP-e consultants. It was all downhill from there. He should have stuck with his own people and his gut.

Agreed. I read a Wisconsin FReeper’s post which explained that Walker is very much a result of and effective within Wisconsin politics. He isn’t doing well outside of that niche. I think that was Rick Perry’s main problem as well.

Pro-open borders/amnesty/citizenship for illegals...

I'm not sure that's fair. Admittedly he has meandered on his position, but his "protect the American worker" theme is certainly counter to that characterization. I do agree he needs to be crystal clear about his position in light of his meandering.

Right—his ‘protect the American worker’ theme, without any actual, concrete specifics—was developed a couple of months ago to counter the blatant open borders statements he had made just a couple of years ago.

That IMO was one problem, the other was how beholden he was to the interests of his donors.
