Jeffrey Sonnenfeld: Why I Still Think Fiorina Was a Terrible CEO
Politico ^

Posted on 09/20/2015 5:16:39 PM PDT by springwater13

As Fiorina admits, I have been critical of her for over a decade—long before she announced her political aspirations. I have studied her business record, challenged her leadership abilities and have come to agree with the assessment that she was one of the worst technology CEOs in history. I stand by that evaluation.

Fiorina can attack me all she wants, as she did when she called me “a well-known Clintonite” (an absurd allegation I’ll get to later) who “had it out for me from the moment that I arrived at Hewlett Packard.” But no amount of one-liners to Trump, weekend study of Middle Eastern names or ad hominen attacks on a university professor can take someone from gross business leadership failure to leader of the free world. To do that, she’ll have to own up to her missteps and try to learn from them—which she seems disinclined to do.

Here are the facts: In the five years that Fiorina was at Hewlett Packard, the company lost over half its value. It’s true that many tech companies had trouble during this period of the Internet bubble collapse, some falling in value as much as 27 percent; but HP under Fiorina fell 55 percent. During those years, stocks in companies like Apple and Dell rose. Google went public, and Facebook was launched. The S&P 500 yardstick on major U.S. firms showed only a 7 percent drop. Plenty good was happening in U.S. industry and in technology.

It was Fiorina’s failed leadership that brought her company down.

I believe Trump has NEVER filed a personal bankruptcy. He has filed for a Chapter 11 business re-organization 4 times on various business ventures, casino’s if I’m not mistaken. It’s what smart, conscientious business people do on occasions.

This horses ass sits in his academic white tower and casts stones at others when he hasn't spent one hour in the private sector actually working for a living. He's never operated a business in his life but feels qualified to critique those who have.

Fiorina is a mess, but this guy's opinion isn't worth jack squat.

Wonder what Sonnenfeld thinks of Hillary’s tenure at the State Department ? But of course I already know the answer to that : hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil. Any thing he says about Fiorina is trumped to the nth power on Hillary. But distraction is good, so keeping the focus on inconsequential side bars in the Republican race gives the Dems and media more time and space to throw the cloak of invisibility over Hillary’s far more consequential personal and policy disasters.

I’ve not read anywhere that Trump ‘stiffed’ anyone due to his Chapter 11’s.....if you do have such info, please share.

Did you even read the column?

She looks like another Hillary with an R after her name.

No, nor have I. Was just noting that unfortunately some people and businesses do stiff creditors. I'm sorry if my message implied that Donald Trump's companies did this this.

Yes and Donald Trump donated to the clintons.

They’re all flawed. Now one must pick one with the least flaws.

That’s why you build your own PC. You get exactly what you want, with no BS programs added, and your own OS for less money.

I read it and I know a lot about her and she’s not Hillary. Did you see any of the debates - where the bloviating Trump washed out and Fiorina actually had all the answers? I actually didn’t like her initially, but now I’m thinking “Maggie Thatcher - US version.” Because that’s what we need.

Yes I saw the debate but I was not impressed with Carly before that.

When I read the speech she gave praising Islam two weeks after 9/11 I was permanently turned off.

No thank you.

Carly worked with Hillary on Vital Voices in the 1990 and in 2014 was part of the criminal Clinton Foundation. So what if Trump donated.

Listen, you are right that’s a bad quote. And Carly has been too deferential to the radical homosexual lobby for my taste, as well. But we aren’t likely to get a more conservative president. If it’s Cruz or Jindal, otherwise I stay home—then we may end up with one Obama after another...

Yup. Trump signs the front of checks, Carly signs the back.

Duh, after all it's supposed to be PERSONAL !

Nothing like being as self-reliant as possible.

Ubuntu 64 with VirtualBox running XPP works great.

Mint64 runs fine - VirtualBox running Win7 - not so much :-(. Time will tell if it can be straightened out.

Sonnenfeld raises some good questions. After buying PWC’s consulting business, HP under Fiorina bought a troubled hardware company. Was there ever a coherent strategy in place to create value?

" value?"

CF talks about Revenue....

Any talk about Liberty? The Constitution? The gov't being subservient to the Citizens?

Freepers, of all people, should be ably to look past style and to substance. Trump and Carly are both entertaining, but not conservative. There are real conservatives running, it is a country threatening mistake to pass on them for a good one liner.
