Human beings are hard-wired to protect young children. That's the easiest explanation of the rush of Europeans -- especially, but not only, elites -- to welcome huge numbers of refugees after publication of the picture of a dead three-year-old boy on a Turkish beach.
In response, Chancellor Angela Merkel said Germany would take in 800,000 as refugees. That's 1 percent of Germany's population. The proportionate equivalent in the United States would be 3 million -- three times the level of legal immigration.
But within days Germany was barring migrants at the Austrian border, and Hungary finished a 12-foot fence blocking migrants from Syria. Slovakia and the Netherlands imposed border controls. Sympathy turned to caution and fear.
The reason is obvious: Europe faces a flood of migrants far beyond its capacity to absorb. Some 4 million people have fled Syria's civil war and 10 million have been displaced. Thousands have been ferried across the Mediterranean and Aegean seas by smugglers. Hundreds have died in transit.
Most of the would-be migrants are young men, seeking economic gain rather than political refuge. Most are Muslim, with far different cultural attitudes than Europeans. Some -- no one knows how many -- are undoubtedly terrorists or susceptible to terrorism.
Some Europeans congratulated themselves on their open-handed approach. Some Americans reacted similarly, remembering the words of Emma Lazarus inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore."
But that's a misleading comparison. The very poorest seldom migrate, because they can't afford it or, as in Syria today, can't get away. And the huge flow of immigration to America from the opening of Ellis Island in 1892 to World War I -- triple, as a percentage of population, the 1982-2007 surge -- was not of the poor with economic motives.
Most Ellis Island-era immigrants came from the multiethnic Russian, Austro-Hungarian and German empires, where they were second-class citizens -- Jews, Poles, Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenes, Serbs, Croats -- in an age of surging nationalism.
America's tradition of civic equality beckoned. Here, they believed, they would be equals with everyone else. They came not to oppose American culture but to partake of it. American elites from Theodore Roosevelt to Henry Ford endorsed this idea of common citizenship and pushed successfully for assimilation in schools and workplaces.
American elites today are less certain of the worthiness of our national culture and have retarded assimilation of immigrants. European elites are worse, laden with guilt of past sins exaggerated (imperialism) and all too real (Nazism). Germans in particular understand that their history imposes special burdens on them, and have tried to shoulder them honorably.
That helps explain Merkel's promise to accept 800,000 migrants. Unhappily, it doesn't make it practical. Successful countries have advanced not because they have fertile farmland or natural resources -- some, such as Switzerland and Singapore, have neither -- but because of the strengths of their national cultures. It's sensible for them therefore to fashion their immigration policies to build on those strengths.
The United States has fallen short of this with immigration laws that have favored low-skill immigrants rather than the high-skill people the nation always needs, and by incompetent enforcement of those laws. Europe has fallen farther short by encouraging, through "multiculturalism," separate enclaves controlled by Muslim and other immigrants who oppose national norms of tolerance and order.
And both the U.S. and Europe have allowed uprisings and civil wars in Syria and Libya to go on, generating hundreds of thousands of refugees and opening the flow of migrants across the Mediterranean. America and Europe may be uninterested in foreign disorders, but foreign disorders are interested in us.
It's not surprising that Eastern European nations, with their experience of culture-crushing Communism, resist elites' calls to allow thousands of aliens to live in their midst. It's not surprising that other European nations did not echo Merkel's call to admit hundreds of thousands of migrants -- or that Germany has found it necessary to close its borders as well.
It's natural for civilized people to offer help when they see a drowned child wash up on a beach. But it's not always wise to offer to let anyone in who shows up. Such offers risk incentivizing literally millions to break the law and to risk -- and sometimes lose -- their lives. That's not humanitarian.

If diversity is so damn good for the west, then it ought to be good for a country such as Somalia. Somalia has no functioning government, a climate like California, a population density like Colorado and over 2000 miles of coastline astride one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. Let the EU set up a model colony there to resettle all the refugees which are unlikely to ever assimilate in the west.
When an if Somalia fills up, pick another broken country and repeat.

Traveling Europe one is stunned by the glory of its churches and the religious art inside....churches these hate-filled Muslims intend to destroy.
Resettling the destructive malevolent Muslim refugees is not an act of kindness-—it foretells the death knell of Europe’s economy and it reliance on tourist dollars.
Its not humanitarian for a nation to commit demographic and spiritual suicide.

To a leftist the whole world is but a Skinner box in which they can place human beings and manipulate them. They call it education. In places like China they called it reeducation.
Pictures of the refugees landing----who decided to walk to benefit-rich Germany and Sweden----saw tons of garbage everywhere, polluting their surroundings with trash, which is regular occurrence in the filthy Third World.

Germany is a thriving, wealthy industrious country...the one that was able to bail out Greece, and weathered the subprime/bank meltdown basically unscathed.
Hard to imagine a financially-astute, conservative German population would stand idly by and allow the unruly Syrian mobs to takeover their beautiful country.
Then the tide turned. Merkel stepped back. The industrious, religious Germans apparently decided they can't deal w/ a bunch of unruly anti-Christian refugees intent on causing mayhem in Christian Germany.
Letting in the Muslim hordes, would see the pristine German countryside littered w/ Muslim detritus....not to mention their body wastes.
Hitler rose because angry masses of Germans were so disadvantaged in the aftermath of WWI, while the elitists who profited from the war were doing just fine.
Just sayin'.....
They're the barbarian hordes lusting after other people's wealth. The calculated Muslim refugees overwhelming Europe whined that they "were poor" b/c European countries were rich. And now the avaricious refugees want to takeover these countries.

This sort of thing is surprisingly common. The only reason it came to light is because the Muslim settler committed two murders in Texas, one of which he actually got away with.
The murder of Christian believer, Gelareh Bagherzadeh, was reported earlier. Gelareh Bagherzadeh was an Iranian Christian who came to this country only to be murdered by a Muslim because she encouraged his daughter to marry the man she loved.
The Texas Muslim claimed he was too disabled to work. But he wasn’t too disabled to kill.
BACKSTORY The Texan, a strict Muslim, was furious when his Jordanian-American daughter married a man without his permission. The Muslim, Ali Mahwood-Awad Irsan, blamed his daughter’s husband, relatives say. They say he also faulted one of her closest friends, 30-year-old Gelareh Bagherzadeh, a Christian convert who widely denounced Islam.
<><> First Christian-believer Bagherzadeh was killed, gunned down outside her parents’ Texas Galleria townhouse complex in January 2012.
<><> Eleven months later, Irsan’s son-in-law died after being shot multiple times in northwest Texas, in the Harris County apartment he shared with his wife.
The Texas Muslim thought he could get away with murdering because he had already gotten away with so many other things in Texas.
Federal authorities executed a search warrant at Irsan’s sprawling, 5-acre property 40 miles north of Houston, where they allegedly found cash, diamonds, pearls, weapons and phony passports hidden in attic rafters, in secret compartments throughout a cluster of trailers and outbuildings and even inside the buried drum of a clothes dryer at the Conroe, Texas property.
The Muslim Irsan, his wife Shmou Ali Alrawabdeh, and another daughter were subsequently arrested on a variety of federal fraud charges and are in federal custody.
A federal criminal complaint detailing the discoveries recounts a saga of nearly 20 years in which the 57-year-old naturalized citizen from Jordan, and his family, allegedly scammed taxpayer disability assistance funds claiming “fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms,” and “affective disorders” while secreting real estate, vehicles and cash in US and foreign bank accounts.
The criminal complaint also alleges the Muslim Irsan:

<><> maintained several addresses on the property to facilitate various schemes, and,
<><> once disabled a safety feature on a saw then purposefully cut himself to receive a $75,000 settlement.
The Muslim was certainly industrious and entrepreneurial, just not quite in the way amnesty advocates like to claim.
Also found on the property was a makeshift gun range, which witnesses said “five or six Muslim families” frequently visited to fire AK-47s and information about Irsan’s attempts to get a silencer. Nothing to do with Islam I’m sure.

While there have been no allegations of terrorist ties regarding the Muslim family’s alleged (a) foreign bank accounts, and, (b) suspicious wire transactions, Irsan’s strict adherence to radical Islam may have been a motive in the alleged murders.
Authorities are also re-examining a 1999 case in which Irsan was not indicted after claiming self-defense in the shooting of son-in-law Amjad Alidam, who was married to Nasemah Rachelle Irsan.
And that’s not all. Prosecutors also revealed, in connection to the social security fraud and credit card charges against Irsan, that they found more than 200 credit cards with various names and multiple variations of his own name throughout the Irwin Keel home.
Arresting officers say they also found more than 40 similar credit cards in his wallet the morning he was arrested. His daughter also alleges, among multiple other schemes detailed in court documents, that Ali Irsan purposely disabled the safety device on a Ryobi rotary saw and purposely cut his own foot. Prosecutors say he used that injury to receive a $75,000 settlement from the manufacturer.

The genuine documents were stolen from Syria when they were blank. The forger added our reporter's picture and gave him the identity of a Syrian man from Aleppo killed last year.
The forger who sold us the papers, said that they are being used by ISIS fanatics to travel undetected across borders into Europe hidden among tens of thousands of genuine refugees fleeing the terror and destruction. As the forger chillingly put it: 'ISIS fighters are among the people going to Europe in this way. They are going to wait for the right time to become a fighter for ISIS again.'

Here's one take....Turkey's Endrogen has an obsession with being KING MAN over the Caliphate has been taking in Syrian Muslims in droves over the last couple years, not that he cares for the people all that much but they serve his purposes...........the Syrian War is in his way and has been of making his ultimate dream come true.
Obama drew lines but did nothing in Syria...the war continued....so why not force the hand of the EU and the US to do what needs to be done in Syria by flooding Europe with his refugee buildup until it's so overwhelming they have no alternative but to do more in Syria to stop the war....currently now in play...
At the same time this 'neutralizes the EU's power' ultimately with so many muslim warrior men entering Europe... and their's a UN and EU world wide attention on a obvious Muslim invasion seen and heavily promoted as a Humanitarian crisis... Erdogann is winning currently....
