EMP versus AGW - Is There a National Death Wish?
americanthinker.com ^ | 9/18/2015 | Norman Rogers

"At a minimum the electrical grid has to be protected so that it can quickly be bought back on line after an attack. The large transformers, without which the grid cannot function, can be protected at a very reasonable cost. But practically nothing has been done. If those transformers are destroyed -- melted -- it would take years to replace them and most of the transformer manufacturing capacity is in foreign countries. The oil refineries, the natural gas distribution system, coalmines, water systems and sewage systems must all be hardened against EMP."

"....we are spending vast sums, potentially trillions, to reduce CO2 emissions in order to protect ourselves from Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW). Besides the fact that AGW is supported by the worst sort of junk science, even if you believe the junk science, reducing U.S. CO2 emissions will have practically no effect because CO2 emissions and growth in CO2 emissions is concentrated in Asia. To compound the craziness, vast sums are being spent on windmills and solar electricity, rather than nuclear power."

AGW=OMG!

EMP=Uh, what?

The small segment at the "debate" the other night about "climate change" it sounded to me like the jakester phrased his question as if 'cc' is an indisputable fact and that the clowns, I mean can'tidates, all accept that it is a fact and "what are you gonna do?". Did I miss it or did any one of them oppose the "fact" of 'cc'. Was there any mention of hardening the grid out of fear of an EMP? Or does that get pushed aside because it's just too scary for common everyday folks to contemplate or beyond our comprehension skills.

Exactly! IBD had that same point in yesterday’s ed page w/ “No, Climate Isn’t Our No. 1 Threat” http://news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/091615-771391-nuclear-power-plants-vulnerable-to-electromagnetic-pulse-weapon.htm

Just tossed this message all over FB. Might I suggest we ALL do that?

Not sure WHAT an EMP is? Never even HEARD the term??
May I respectfully suggest that you either read the piece at the link below or at least watch the under 6 minute video HERE:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vn6OVLK0MBI
America hating obozo has laid us bare in so many OTHER areas to attack by his fellow tyrants around the world that his FAILURE to take the steps necessary to protect the grid make perfect sense to his warped mind. How better to KILL MILLIONS of us without wasting all that ammo fedzilla has stockpiled. His equally malicious minions (REAL ones, not those cute yellow guys with the goggles) wouldn’t have to fire a shot. That would leave more ammo to “deal with” any resisters who might survive.
Oh, if you’re thinking that an EMP attack would also take out many of his loyal subjects, well, you know, you can’t make an omelet without breaking some eggs — or form a utopian socialist state without killing some friends. Just ask Stalin, Mao, Castro, Pol Pot, etc.

There’s more threat from space based EMP sources like massive sun flares than anything climate change presents.

Sadly, not FReepers, but the public in general would click on a kardouchian you tube faster than an eye blink. Something scary and confusing as an EMP video that pops up on FB? Nah. To busy for most. Besides, the govt will take care of us. Maybe literally. Ruh roh.

This was known several years ago. Nothing has been done, and that is with full knowledge and awareness of the consequences.

FYI, FR has a strident contingent of “EMP deniers” who manage to pop up on just about every EMP-related thread. It wouldn’t surprise me if they should descend upon this thread any minute now to muddy the waters.

Is there a national death wish. Why yes, that is the goal of the Obama administration.

Truthfully, the idea of a national electric grid is old tech, and needs to be updated. For example, at least half a dozen companies now manufacture small nuclear reactors, that can easily power from 5 to 15 square miles of mixed use urban area, including industrial use. Some of these are so simple that they are “emplace, plug in and forget”, for a set length of time.

While these cannot replace the grid, of course, they can significantly reduce its vulnerability by making the grid far less vital.

Yeah, me too. I thought the EMP deniers would have been all over this thread by now. But maybe they were spooked by the article, which very cleverly cast the issue as EMP Mitigation versus Global Warming Mitigation. I'm sure nobody around here wants to be perceived as being on the GWM team!
