How did I feel at the end of his term? Two terms, actually, from 2003 to 2011? (I had to look it up!)
Let down. In all fairness to Arnold, he DID have some solid plans when first elected to reduce government, and on an upcoming special ballot there were a couple of measures that would have helped him do it if they passed -- it was something to do with access to the budget to allow him the ability to do things like cut the power of teachers unions, I think, but I won't swear to it -- I don't remember the details at all, but I do remember that the ballot measures made sense -- they reduced government.
I remember being really ticked off at fellow voters during the special election because Arnold needed our help, and everybody snubbed him -- that's how it felt to me. That he wasn't able to deliver on some things was the voters' fault, so to speak.
Just the same, Arnold got progressively lefter and lefter, more big education and big environmentalism, showier and out of touch with us folks on the street just trying to make a living. Looking back, that's how I felt.
The next go-around I am ashamed to say I chickened out and voted for Meg Whitman to vote "against" Jerry "Moonbeam" Brown. Meg Whitman was a Romney protégé and turned my stomach in every way, but I still voted for her.
How stupid is that. If she'd have won, I'd be to blame for all of her horrific crap.

I do not dislike Trump, but if Cruz is not on the ballot I will write in his name. I’m not going to settle this time.

Trump is I believe a sincere well-meaning patriot, and I think Arnold was, too. In retrospect, I think Arnold needed an audience to push him and cheer him, and it didn't materialize.
It's anyone's guess as to what Trump will do. He lacks a political compass.
He's a different kind of "bad" than Romney, whom I hold in contempt. People voted "against" when they voted for Romney. With Trump, it's so easy for people to project their own expectations on him just like I did with Arnold, people will gladly vote "for" whatever they want him to be.

NEED that kind of verification. When the applause stops, there is a big let down and they despair, hence the drugs, alcohol, adulterous affairs, etc.
