During an appearance of Face the Nation, Dr. Ben Carson took a stab today at outlining how he would deal with the issue of illegal immigration. After criticizing Donald Trump’s concept of deporting every illegal immigrant (and then readmitting “the good ones”), Carson said this:
[L]et’s say we get [the borders] sealed, because certainly in a Carson administration that would be done within the first year. You also turn off the spigot that dispenses the goodies, so that people don’t have any incentive to come here.
Then those who are here, we have to recognize that we can’t just round them up, but we can give them an opportunity to register. I would give them a six-month period.
If they register, and if they have a pristine record, they haven’t been causing problems, I would give them an opportunity to become guest workers — not citizens, not voting people, not people who get goodies. I think that would be a fair way to do it.
In terms of them becoming citizens later on down the road if they’ve done things the right way, we the American people will decide what the criteria for that ought to be.

Its success is predicated upon LAWBREAKING WETBACKS OBEYING THE LAW AND REGISTERING.
What happens when they DON’T? (And they WON’T. Why should they?)
What’s your “stick” to deal with those who continue to break the law?

Dr. Carson is a decent man, certainly NOT presidential material.
Turning off the spigot would require an act of congress as the legislative branch controls the purse strings... allegedly. We know there's very little chance of congress turning off the spigot and for this reason, this plan is untenable.

Deportations are handled by ICE and DHS and other federal law enforcement agencies which fall under the control of the executive branch, under the direct control of President Donald Trump IOW. For this reason, the Trump plan is more viable.
He’s really fumbling the ball. I suspect he thinks that Bush is going to recover and his fortunes are favored best by aligning himself with the GOPe as opposed to Donald Trump. he’s wrong sadly. I really liked Carson.

The unstated problem with Carson’s plan...if indeed one favored it..is that we’d soon be deluged with efforts to “reunite” families....every one who got to stay here would soon want to bring over 4-5 more
I understand your position and would in fact prefer that the current illegals are deported. I just wonder how realistic that is in the current environment. My general position is that if we close the border, I’m up to making compromises for the people who are already here. However, the discussion of what to do with the illegals already here is premature to me. Close the border first, then we can talk about the rest of it.
Compromise comes after the border is closed. Not before.
Point out an instance in the last 10 years when a Lib/Dem compromised.

You cut off all aid, even the children, to any illegal until a plan can be formulated. Only Green card holders can work.
There is a way to fix this problem but it is complicated and will take a long time. It requires all federal agencies to follow the law.
Anchor babies have to be dealt with first. Property owners next. And on down the line. It will take years! But worth it.
He has his handlers and they have been told to have Carson take Trump out...

With that statement Carson made, he can/should be removed for the upcoming debate plus, he has NO BUSINESS being on any stage as a path to leadership in this country. Perhaps Africa would be a better place for him.
The more we see of Dr. Carson, the more he’s reminding me of Alan Keyes. One issue, no conservative substance when you scratch the surface.
WE DON’T WANT AMNESTY AND PATH TO CITIZENSHIP IN ANY FORM. ROUND THEM UP, CHIP THEM AND THEN DEPORT THEM! If they’ve committed a crime they do the time. They kill, they get the death penalty. Deportation should be instant. Not dragged out for years.
Any employer found hiring a Illegal should FACE A $100K FINE for each one AND 5 YRS IN PRISON.
NO welfare, no food stamps, housing, phones, WE HAVE VETERANS GOING WITH OUT HEALTHCARE AND SENIORS GOING WITH OUT MEDS AND FOOD. Just so some illegal can have it.

Those who knowingly and willingly violate our law to get here should never, ever, ever . . . be granted citizenship and the right to vote.
