Burning Man considers legal action against Quizno's

The toasted sandwich company published a parody video, “Out of the Maze and into the Playa,” on YouTube earlier this week, a day after the weeklong utopian arts celebration in Northern Nevada’s Black Rock Desert concluded on Monday. The plot sends the characters of the “Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials,” a not-so-well reviewed science fiction thriller to be released later this month, to Burning Man as a test of character.

“Welcome to Burning Man. The world outside is hanging on by a very thin, non-GMO, cruelty-free, organic hemp thread. Beyond this tent flap lies the beginning of your new lives as Burners,” a Burner says to the characters at the beginning of the video.

Burning Man takes issue with the clip and is considering legal action, not because of the mockery it makes of the more than 70,000-person annual event but because the video is theft of the event’s intellectual property, according to Burning Man spokesman Jim Graham.

Here is the Quiznos parody commercial, one of the funniest things I have seen all year:

Burn Trials- Out of the Maze and into the Playa

By the way, for folks that don't know, non-GMO means non Genetcally Modified Organism foods - very PC.

"Cruelty Free" is another PC buzz word. Quiznos rips out all the stops to parody Pagan Political Correctness here.

My husband and I thought it was really funny. Our 21-year-old thought it was serious.

And the 3-year-old said, “That’s a sandwich! I want one!”

the weeklong utopian arts celebration

More like a weeklong anarchist orgy and brainless tribute to Woodstock.

I like when the show the head honcho sipping wine, and some in the “bucket list” about yachts.

“My husband and I thought it was really funny. Our 21-year-old thought it was serious.”

Why is it the younger generation just does not have a sense of humor? This commercial was hilarious!

The older actor seemed to be parodying Aidan Gillen who is (in Game of Thrones) in this movie short about Rosetta comet probe titled, “Ambition.”

That's a good question. Some of them take themselves and the media very seriously, while living quite frivolously, all that time on Facebook and playing games.

I'm not familiar with young actors: they all seem to look alike.

I liked the video and thought it was quite clever. Not your typical advertisement. I especially liked when the yuppy was crossing "Burning Man" off his bucket list. It was right below "Yacht Racing." And as this was the summer of Yachting for many of us, we can now move on to "Burning Man" as next on our yuppy bucket list.

This is way better advertising campaign than what that other sandwich chain did (with that pervert they had for a mascot).

“Lion hunting” was on the list, too, and I believe “horse breeding” followed Burning Man.

The thing about this is that without the Burning Man people publically pondering whether to sue Quiznos or not, I never would have seen it!

So they're actually advertising Quiznos with their very stupid, no-sense-of-humor lawsuit ramblings.

And they won't win. Parody is absolutely protected free speech and fair use. Intellectual property can't be parodied?

Not just Burning Man, but stupid, man!

Or should I say, stupid, Moon Pony!
