Server company: Deleted Clinton emails may be recoverable

Platte River Networks, the company that managed Hillary Clinton’s private email server, says it has no evidence of the server being wiped, meaning tens of thousands of deleted emails could be recovered, according to the Washington Post .

“Platte River has no knowledge of the server being wiped,” company spokesman Andy Boian said. “All the information we have is that the server wasn’t wiped.”

The former secretary of State and Democratic presidential candidate said she deleted her personal correspondence amounting to 31,000 emails before turning over the server to FBI investigators.

Deleted data can still be restored from a server unless it has been “wiped” – a process that involves overwriting underlying data with gibberish.

A Clinton campaign spokesperson declined to comment to the Post.

It is unclear whether anyone has the authority to restore the emails, even if they could be restored.

Clinton and her staffers have deflected questions as to whether the server had been wiped, on several occasions saying they don’t know what “wiped” means.

The FBI is investigating whether Clinton compromised classified information over the private server during her tenure as secretary of State.

They keep printing this garbage like they think no one has any technological savvy. Since there aren’t any riots in the streets, maybe they are right.

wasn’t there a story about an email that referred to her purchase of a book on computers that has a chapter on how to wipe a computer or server?

Yep, that rung a bell and I just found this.

excerpt:

“The last batch of Hillary Clinton emails released by the State Department included one from Clinton asking to borrow a book called “Send: Why People Email So Badly and How to Do It Better,” by David Shipley and Will Schwalbe.

Clinton has not said why she requested the book, but it includes some advice that is particularly interesting in light of the controversy over her unconventional email arrangement at the State Department and her decision to delete tens of thousands of emails she deemed to be purely personal.”

Gowdy: Sec. Clinton did you personally, or someone in your employ, use some technique to remove emails permanently from your server?

Clinton: “I have no specific recollection of doing that.”

[wording she used back in the 90s to avoid questions and perjury while ‘testifying’ in front of Congress]
