We just got the clearest sign yet that Russia doesn't really care about fighting ISIS in Syria
Business Insider ^ | 12 Sep 15 | Natasha Bertrand

Moscow will reportedly provide Russian troops in Syria with an advanced antiaircraft missile system as part of its military support for Syrian president Bashar Assad.

"This system is the advanced version used by Russia, and it's meant to be operated by Russians in Syria," a Western diplomat who is regularly briefed on US, Israeli, and other intelligence assessments told Reuters.

And as The Daily Beast's Michael Weiss points out, any antiaircraft missiles deployed by Russian troops in Syria won't be directed at ISIS, since ISIS has no air force.

In fact, none of the rebels do — only government forces have access to aircraft.

Russia has substantially increased its military presence in Syria over the past two weeks under the guise of helping the embattled Assad fight ISIS and other extremists.

And now that US and Russian fighter jets are flying side-by-side — the US has been launching airstrikes against ISIS since mid-2014, and Russian drones and fighter planes are reportedly surveilling non-ISIS rebels in the country's north — Moscow sees it as an opportunity to force Washington to come to the table.

Assad has always focused on eliminating opposition other than al Qaeda and ISIS first to assure he's the least bad alternative. Putin continues to destabilize the region as he's done in Iran with advanced air defense systems and Iran's nuclear program. Israel may be forced to act before Putin makes Syria another Russian colony.

This is going to lead to trouble. Another indicator of why we shouldn’t elect an amateur president and why Putin’s agenda is something to be skeptical about.

Russia will be allied with Islam in an attempt to destroy Israel.

Count on it.

Even the “amateur” Trump was against the invasion of Iraq which, quite predictably, turned into the root cause of this particular middle eastern problem and a slew of others.

You’re in sync with the Left when you say the invasion of Iraq is the cause of radical Islam. Were there Islamist before the Iraq War? How about when the Islamist took over the US Embassy in Iran? How about when they fought against the Soviets in Afghanistan? How about when they blew up our Embassy in Lebanon and the Marine Corp barracks? But, never mind, Trump, like Obama, expect to get credit as experts for being against the war in Iraq. And it was the Iraq wars fault that Mohammad was born and preached violence and conquest by the sword.

At least they aren’t supplying ISIS with weapons like we are.

Russia jut took over the Syrian government right under our noses.

The mob goons have moved in to provide “protection” and Assad will now take orders from Moscow.

And our presidents’ reaction wasn’t even an afterthought to Putin.

Bad actors worldwide have a free hand with bathhouse Barry in office.

ISIS does have aircraft, many reports from a year ago about this.

But this AA equipment is aimed at NATO forces, not ISIS.

The coalition Air Force is the Air Force of ISIS

We see the game obama has been playing here

Obama won’t let our forces strike any target threatening Assad because he shars the common goal of ISIS in overthrowing Assad and has aligned us with Islamic extremism

Our idiots in Washington prefer that Al Nusra Front aka Al Qaeda or ISIS rule Syria than Assad and throw the country into turmoil just like Libya
We are actually helping the beheaders, crucifiers, rapists, and slaveholders out of some inexplicably personalized obama vendetta against Assad ... People were not fleeing Syria under Assad but the country is depopulating under obama’s selected allies

Assad is the least bad of all bad choices and Russia has a treaty to defend him, 2 reasons we need to get out of there

and tell Saudi Arabia to bugger off with supporting insanity because it has a Sunni base

That is incorrect. They have no air assets at all. Assad has retained a semblance of air power, but it is of limited value given the regional logistics.

Leaving Iraq and taking Kadaffi out did more to destabilize the middle east than the original invasion ever did, that’s a fact.

Every expert in the military told the Won not to withdraw from Iraq. Nice vacuum he and val created, and it should suck in his Nobel Peace prize.

I'm in sync with reality when I say the invasion of Iraq was a mistake and a disaster on many levels. Did it cause Radical Islam? of course not. Did it empower Radical Islam? Yes it most certainly did. Did any good come of it? Hell no.

You are parroting Obama’s propaganda. Next you will be telling us they have no M1 Abrams tanks.

A cursory search from 2014 shows they have not only aircraft, but an airbase and a training program to use those aircraft.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they were secretly supporting them. I agree, all they’re after there is expanding their power and influence in the Middle East and elsewhere around the world. They are still reeling from the humiliations of the Reagan era. A very recent report said they are building a major military base on the Ukraine border.

Russia Is Building A Massive Military Base On Ukrainian Border

The Daily Caller ^ | September 10, 2015 | Reuters

Russia is building a military base along the Ukrainian border, signaling its preparing for long-term support of the pro-Russian separatists fighting for Ukraine. The massive base - scheduled for completion in April - will house ammunition depots and barracks for several thousand soldiers, and will be used to train soldiers, reported Reuters. The Reuters reporter investigating the new base was temporarily detained and accused of being a Ukrainian spy. Russian officials didn't respond to Reuters questions about the purpose of the base and whether it's connected to the fight for Ukraine. ..."
