The Texas senator’s father fled violence in Cuba in the ’50s, but the current crop of Syrian refugees won’t have the same protection if Cruz has his way. Ted Cruz, whose own father fled an oppressive regime decades ago, said Tuesday he opposed the U.S. taking in “large numbers” of refugees fleeing violence in Syria and elsewhere in the region.
The ultimate goal for the migrants seeking safety from the violence that is roiling North Africa and the Middle East should be for them to return home, the 2016 presidential contender said Tuesday, not to resettle them in America.
Europe has been in the grips of a migrant crisis, driven especially by violence in Syria, where fighting between the Assad regime, rebel factions and ISIS have driven millions from their homes. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees estimates that the number of refugees fleeing Syria now exceeds four million, the largest refugee crisis in the UN agency’s history.
Cruz’s statement stands in stark contrast to his family story, which he frequently on the campaign trail uses to highlight the American dream and the importance of a country that values freedom and liberty. That story is about his father, Rafael Cruz, who fled Cuba to the United States after enduring torture at the hands of the Batista regime. “America, quite simply, saved my father. America gave him a chance… The freedom of America was the dream that allowed him to endure the brutality of Cuba. It was and is a beacon of hope for all those who, like him, have endured oppression,” Cruz wrote in his recent memoir, A Time for Truth.

Cruz is right - Syrian refugees, go seek refuge in another Muslim country, where they appreciate your religious sensitivities.
These people are not refugees. They are invaders and should be repulsed. The only refugees I would consider taking in here are Syrian and Iraqi Christians...who of course aren’t even being considered.
Cuban refugees didn’t come to turn the US into a third world craphole. Muslim refugees are coming to turn every other country into a muslim country.

Ted Cruz’s father was not an islamic terrorist fleeing an oppressive regime run by different islamic terrorists.
Sen. Cruz did not tell them to “go home”— he merely said it’s wiser for them to find accommodations closer to their home.
The “Syrian Refugees” problems can’t be solved here and the further away from home they are, the less chance there is that they will ever go home.
Cuban refugees didn’t come here to recreate Cuba. They came to wait for the Castro Brothers to die and most had every intent of returning to Cuba at some point. Many still do, its why they’re so heavily concentrated in South Florida.
Looks like Jordan and Egypt are the only 2 muslim countries that have taken any refugees and they’re about the poorest.
There is a world of difference between taking in an innocent and taking in someone who hates you and wants you dead.
I would never advocate for bringing ANYONE here of ANY color that hates us and wants to kill us.
You know tens of thousands of these ‘Syrians’ will be headed to swell the welfare ranks of Dearborn. At least you guys have them all in one place.
What a lowlife slimebag author/article. Cruz’s mom was an American...which is worlds different from Syrian refugees coming to the US en mass with NO biological connection.
These people that are fleeing are not refugees, they are invaders....
Let them invade some more countries in Europe instead of coming here...
I don’t any of the muslims here, all they want to do is turn this country into what they want....and my answer to that is this:
GO BACK TO WHERE YOU CAME FROM AND MAKE IT YOUR COUNTRY AND YOUR BELIEFS AND STAY THE HELL OUT OF OUR COUNTRY!!!

Cruz’ father was a legal immigrant.
One look at the bad sections of Detroit and they will want to go back.
