29 delegates at a conference in Handeloh, near Hamburg, hospitalised
Found staggering around, unable to talk and suffering violent convulsions
Urine and blood tests found they'd taken hallucinogenic 2C-E
German police have launched investigation after drug outlawed last year
A homeopathy conference in Germany descended into chaos after dozens of delegates took an LSD-like drug and began to suffer hallucinations.
Twenty-nine male and female delegates were spotted 'staggering around' in front of the convention centre in Handeloh, south of Hamburg.
Broadcaster NDR reported that the were also seen curled up on the field outside the centre, talking incoherently and suffering violent convulsions.
The group were found at the hotel where the conference was taking place on Friday.
German police have since launched an investigation after the drug thought to be responsible was made illegal last year.

"Natural medicine" in review.
Wow, they sound just like...... Naaah, too easy - not going there.
Ouch!
2C-E is a phenylethylamine, not a tryptamine, not LSD-like at all.
But you can’t expect a “journalist” to research a story.
This was a homeopathy conference, so the only tenable conclusion is that they took too little of the stuff.
(Those who know about homeopathic philosophy will understand)
Well I guess the natural medicine was effective, just not at what they expected.
Took it on purpose? Or some joker fed it to them? This story needs more information.
There, I gave you an out... ;)
I have GOT to go see the new movie “Cooties” about
child zombies, it looks hysterical.
Are they certain this wasn’t a Democrat pre-convention planning meeting?

Wouldn’t it be that they took to much of too little of the stuff?:)
That was my initial thought - too coincidental that that many of them had the reaction at the same time. They should check on whether anybody brought homemade brownies...

2C-E should not be compared to similar compounds such as 2C-I and 2C-B. 2C-E is more likely to produce strong synesthesia, sound distortion and an enhancement of the experience of music, and, most notably, visuals. It has much more potential to become overwhelming in comparison to 2C-I and 2C-B because of its highly introspective nature. While many users of lower doses of 2C-E have reported that the compound produces mainly closed-eye visuals, users of higher doses have compared its open-eye visuals with those produced by LSD; a significant proportion of these comparisons have favored the visual effects of 2C-E in terms both of their geometric complexity and in the variety of colors seen during an experience. The euphoriant effect shared by several other psychedelic phenethylamines seems only to have been reported relatively rarely by users of 2C-E; the compound has been described as “difficult” by its users, including its inventor Shulgin:
Almost sounds like the effects of Jimson Weed.
Indeed. A teeny tiny does but perhaps lots of them over time which built up.
And are these people in any way related to the several natural medicine proponents who died over a very short period of time?
Other than EOV at high doses, not very similar. LSD does not cause convulsions, does not cause involuntary muscle tension and uncomfortable body feelings. Then there is the chemistry, one has a phenyl ring, the other a tryptamine ring.
From article...
“Torsten Passie, a member of the German government’s expert commission for narcotics, told NDR: ‘It must have been a multiple overdose.
‘That does not support the view that the people concerned took the hallucinogen knowingly.
‘One has to assume that people were not told about the substance, its effects and risks before taking it.’
German police have launched a criminal inquiry into what happened, after the drug was outlawed last year, Deutsche Welle reported.
Detectives are said to be looking into whether or not the drugs were taken as part of an experiment.
