Navy Chaplain Lt. Cmdr. Wes Modder won't be forced out of the Navy for his religious views, according to the Independent Military Times.
His commander, Capt. Jon Fahs, had been pushing for Modder's ouster, citing comments Modder allegedly made in counseling sessions critical of premarital sex and homosexual relations.
In a letter, the Navy Personnel Command said the evidence doesn't meet the standard of gross negligence or complete disregard for duty needed to boot out an officer. It also cited a lack of documentation in his personal record backing charges of poor performance.
"There was no record of counseling. There was no letter of instruction given to Chaplain Modder by the command and non-judicial punishment was not conducted," one official told Military Times.
The commander, Captain Jon Fahs, should be prosecuted for malicious prosecution and unlawful command influence.
He is the equivalent of a bird colonel. He’s been around the military a long time. He knows that chaplains are supposed to be faithful to their denomination. He’s been taught that in every command school he ever attended that spoke to the issue of specialized staff.
Modder’s crimes? In counseling sessions he faithfully represented his denomination’s opposition to sexual sin.
There should be repercussions for Captain Fahs. He’s not ignorant of these things. This was malicious prosecutions that truly was a persecution.
My guess is that this Captain Fahs is gay himself, closeted or otherwise.
When I was in high school, I was interested in going into the Navy to be a chaplain. I’m glad I didn’t follow through with my convictions. I would’ve been fired years ago.
Bizarre on its face.

I didn’t catch the “denomination” from the CBN article. For information’s sake, are you privy to Modder’s XPian tradition?
In a CNN report last night, a commenter told Anderson Cooper that there are 60 million evangelical Christians in the U.S. In presidential elections, 20 million vote. If the other 40 million are motivated to vote (this was in the context of the Kim Davis story), they could decide who the next president is.
So it is not surprising that Obama and the Democrat media do not want any more flash points such as the Kim Davis arrest or this Navy chaplain’s firing to galvanize that very large segment of voters before the 2016 election.
I’ve heard others with the same view. Somehow a homosexual lieutenant, not a chaplain so far as I know, ended up in Modder’s office. In the Army that kind of assignment would be a kiss of death for a lieutenant.
IIRC, it is Assembly of God. There are two links to previous articles at the article website. One or the other mentions his denomination.
Thank you and...God bless.
If 40 million more evangelical Christians vote, they WILL determine who the next President is.
Watch Kentucky. The Kim Davis jailing came at almost the perfect time to influence the statewide elections that are happening this November.
None of us like Mitch McConnell, but his 15 point win over Alison Grimes last year spooked the KY Democrats pretty badly. Now they’re freaking out over Davis and the term-limited Democrat Governor, who wants to play more in national Democrat politics, is being a complete a** and refusing to throw them any sort of a lifeline.
If Matt Bevins and the other GOP candidates win and win big, and if the GOP retakes the state Legislature from the Dems, the reaction from national Dems is going to be fun to watch.
This sounds to me like not only was he "not discharged", he was completely exonerated.
I agree. I believe Congress inserted itself and was irate that the Navy was giving life to this prosecution. Congress’ message was simple, that chaplains in the military are SUPPOSED to represent their denominations.
Chaplain cannot force people into counseling, but when those people agree to counseling, they will many times hear the Chaplain’s religious background speaking. Is anyone really surprised by that?
In saner times, the Captain would have been shuffled off to a less than desirable assignment and “invited” to retire.
That or maybe he is committing Adultery, which is (was?) a Court Martial offense.
Thank you for posting this good news.
I find it odd that a Navy lieutenant was assigned to Modder’s office. I’ve not ever read a good explanation of that. An assistant to a chaplain is an enlisted speciality, so why was a commissioned officer present. Perhaps Modder shared an office with a social service wing of the navy. That would explain it. But I’ve never found out why that lieutenant was there and part of the prosecution against modder.
My gut tells me he was a plant, and that Fahs was carrying out a witch hunt.
Can you imagine what will happen to the Christ-haters in the military if Ted Cruz becomes president? So long, scum.
Thanks, GreyFriar.
By Fah’s standard, every chaplain of every denomination that considers homosexuality and other inappropriate sexuality to be sin should be in the crosshairs of the legal system if they breathe a word about their beliefs.
Catholic, Baptist, Orthodox, Assemblies, etc. Evidently, Fahs would prosecute them all.
Cruz is my first choice, and I do believe he would restore balance to the military.
