New images have come to light which appear to confirm previous reports of Russian "boots on the ground" in Syria, aiding Bashar al-Assad's overstretched forces defend regime strongholds from advancing rebel armies.
The pictures appear to be taken in a variety of locations in western Syria, including Homs and the key port city of Tartus. They show Russian fighters posing with weapons in front of Russian and Syria flags, and portraits of the countries' respective leaders Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad.

Even Stalin didn’t invade the middle east. (Except for Iran)
What does Russia gain by getting involved in that cluster fluk?
Goody.
Let the Russians clean up ISIS.
We shoulda contracted it to them a long time ago.
They won’t worry about niceties when they wipe the SOBs out.
Even better, we could send Syrian refugees to Southern Russia or the ‘stans, which are mostly Muslime. Better there then Europe or America. They’ll fit right in! Or end up dead. Either way, works for us.
The Russians are going after ISIS....cleaning up Obama’s mess.
Warm Mediterranean port, and potential future access to those gas reserves all over the place off of the coast of Israel, Syria, Lebanon, & Egypt.
True, and influence in a part of the world we have abdicated due to O’s fecklessness. They’ve already made inroads in Egypt.
This time next year they’ll be on their way to Jerusalem, along with the Persians and other fellow travelers....
I'm guessing control of the area, to keep a Saudi gas pipeline out and therefore continued dominance of the European natural gas market-which represents both money and power for the Russians.
Could be....gonna happen at some point, fer sure.
They will not leave afterwards. Russian boots on the ground = Russian hegemony in the ME. If I were living in Israel, I would be worried...oh, wait...
I agree....the Russians sense a weakness with this president & are moving now to consolidate control of parts of the Middle East.
If so, it won’t end well for them.
Maranatha, Lord Jesus.
Forgive me, but I wish the Russians luck on this mission. Would advise they leave the Jews alone.

Really Riley I think you have something there
Yep.
And while we're at it, let's talk them into taking on Afghanistan again so our team can come home.
Best I have heard in a long time. It is their part of the world, let them deal.
They want access to a Syrian port. That way they have a place to go if NATO shuts off the Bosphorus Strait.
